I think they changed to the Borg-Wagner T5 gearbox in 1994.

The 4.0 HC (High Compression) model was produced from around 94-96 but I'd say it'd be possible to find the HC models either with or without the T5 gearbox.

You can tell by the position of reverse.

IF REVERSE IS ACROSS T0 THE RIGHT AND THEN DOWN ITS A T5 BOX I THINK THE SD1 BOX HAD THE REVERSE ACROSS TO THE LEFT THEN UP

yesHigh cam,not high comp,if any thing the HC as a lower static compression because of the notched pistons(more volume)but thats being pettythumbup

On a serious note madmax2 is of course correct on the positioning. It's either a T5 or an LT77 (a version of which was fitted to the SD1.)
I don't know why people worry, they both have their champions.

Most Hc's are after 94 fitted with T5 box and serp motor , I have even seen them as late as a 98 car , i had a 95 and my mate has a 97.
Basically different cam with vernia , double valve springs , piston crowns ,and mapping .
Get one they sound great , in a lots of way better than my 500, though not as fast. Can be shunty at 1500-1800 rpm but worth it .
