I may buy an E36 for weekends and stuff, what do you guys reckon i could pick up for approx 4K. Also, are there any specialist insurance companies that insure group 20 cars like the M3
Thanks

4k will net you a reasonable 3.0l M3 if you're lucky. Will likely require a huge amount of maintenance though.

Lol.

You'll get a good 328 sport or a tatty M3 for £4k. But the 28 will cost you 1/4 of the ££s to insure than the M so factor that.

Elephant.co.uk seem to be the cheapest by a mile for insurance on the M. For me at least anyway

If 328, then why not just a cheap good 328 and renew or update it's supsension ? Looks like £4000 for 328 is too much nowadays compared how cheaply you can get a non-sport.

My 328i and a set of intrax coilovers would get you an awesome car at that price!

Sport already has the upgraded suspension as well as an LSD (if it was fitted as an option) and the sports interior so it's a better car to start off with.

Sport suspension still isn't great though. If it were me I'd guy for a standard 328i, fit the LSD (if it isn't already fitted) and some coilovers. Total cost still under £4k, plus much reduced running costs over a cheap M3, which is a contradiction in terms.

Thanks for all your thoughts on this. I dont want to come across as a cheap skate, just dont want to spend a fortune on a car that will get limited use, 400 miles a week at £5.00 per gallon is scary stuff indeed.
have seen a nice 94 model 66K miles Dakar Yellow, asking £6 ONO, price seems about right for the condition, thought about offering £5500

Someone who knows the works of Mr MacDonald, a rare find indeed. Yes Miss Agnes was getting a little long in the tooth, so have decided on M3 instead
