i've heard that if you get caught 3 times for this your car goes on a 'Q' plate killing it's value ( I think they also validate , if caught , that you correctly remediate your car by taking it to a testing station)
Thats what I was told by plod was the penalty for intentionally having illegal sized plates, but I'm not sure if they implement the same penalty for not having one at all? As you could plead ignorance that it must of fallen off, or been stolen.turboguru said:
Whilst I appreciate it's illegal to remove the front number plate I have seen a number of 360's without front plates.
Thats a disgraceful thing to do. These people must do this with the sole intent of not ruining the flowing lines of the beautiful 360 shape with a number plate. I'd wager they do it to avoid forward facing cameras too, robbing the government of much needed fines if they cant take a nice picture of the front plate. I would hope that the law comes down VERY hard on such persons. Mind you, if their plate has genuinely just fell off, and they were polite to plod about the "offence", and they had gathered the plate up and kept it down the side of the passenger seat for the last three years because they kept clean forgetting to refix it, lets say for example, theoretically, I bet the scally wags get away with it.
I trust that this answers your query fully.

Why does the value of the car decrease on a 'Q' plate?LittleBro said:

Why does the value of the car decrease on a 'Q' plate? The worst that can happen is that you get a £30 fine for a missing number plate.
The story about the Q plate is rubbish.
They are only given to vehicles built up of parts from various cars, where the quantity of miscellaneous parts exceeds the quantity of the original car.
Do what Hazy suggested and carry the "missing plate" in the car.

How do you go about explaining the 10 layers of Zymol over the front where there should be double sided tape?
Easy..it would be Daves fault for polishing the car to such a shine the plate wouldnt stick at all...

Thought this pic of me and Ian Wright getting pulled for no plates in France on the 187 EuroTour 2006 might tickle you...

Wrong. Q plates are for when the manufacturing date of the car isn't clear. If your numberplate is withdrawn they can argue that the date of manufacture is now questionable so bung a Q plate on.The story about the Q plate is rubbish.

You'll probably get away with the 'it just fell of' trick for ages, but it only takes some bad luck, meeting plod on a bad day 3 times....
I will double check later but the "theory" of a car going on to Q plate for no plates is almost certainly rubbish.
From memory if you get caught with illegal number plates (mispaced, wrong type etc) then the DVLA can withdraw the plate. BUT I have never heard of it actually happening.
More than likely that if you irritated the officer you would get a £30 fine, if you get lucky they will just tell you to get one fitted.
You will probably find that most police wont notice. Traffic, however, have eyes like hawks when it comes to number plates!
The "it just fell off" is unlikely to work as the officer will then ask how it was attached, considering the bumper has no holes and no markings to suggest a number plate was ever there!!!!

I had a smaller front number plate on my 360 and got pulled by Plod up near Lincoln and the Q plate story is what he told me. He gave me a slip to get stamped at a MOT station confirming that the correct plate had been put back on.

Gotta say Adam, thank feck you have got rid of those bloody awful 355 and 360 plates ... at least you have a decent one now

And I also believe the Q-plate threat is bollx ... can you imagine how much the DVLA would get sued for by devalueing a car with a Q-plate? No, if they take away any cherished Nos from persistent offenders the car will simply be given a number relevant to its year of manufacture.
I was told that if i was caught doing this on several occasions that they would apply to to the dvla to take the private plate off the car and re assign it to a normal one, this sounds possible but i don't know if it is true, so bib said anyway. What do they do if its not a private plate?
You get a defect rectification form or a £30 fine depending on how keen the officer in question is in my experience. 2yrs 3 pulls, always good to be polite. VDR form, mot station charged £5 to sign.
