Hi guys,
I have just taken delivery of my new (to me!) XKR portfolio. First impressions are that it is a great car - exactly what I have been looking for. Haven't had chance to drive it to much yet though! However a couple of questions - are these cars IPOD compatible. I have heard different things form different people.
Alos I have a blackberry pearl but cannot seem to get it to connect to the car - anyone have any ideas why this might be??
Thanks

Well done that man! clap So what did you pay for it? It was £76k new.....

Ipod - You need to pay £300 for the new Jaguar XK Ipod connector, or buy a new XF with it as standard.

Bluetooth - All bluetooth phones should work right? Wrong! Check out the Jaguar website for compatibility. If no joy buy a new phone that works. Older seems to be better. http://www.jaguar.co.uk/uk/en/jaguar_ownership/own...

Pics please...........

thank you
Well the car has done 800 miles and is as you would expect immaculate. I managed to pay low 60's which i thought was a cracking deal. Might not think so in a years time but i'll deal with that then !!
IPOD lead ? Where does that connect into? It has the B&W surround system but can't see where it would cnnect. Also nothing in manual about it
Bluetooth - gonna be a mighty pain if i can't link phone up - have a blackberry 8100 that i can't change frown ! the website says it is not recommended but will connect but i have to go to a blackberry website . . .and do what? I went to that website and it didn't make any difference! will post some pics as soon as i can

The Ipod connection is a retro-fit, I think the USB lead eventually appears in the centre console storage area. I'm not sure that the centre control display can use any of the ipod functions aside play skip etc.?? Steelej will be along soon to correct me I'm sure.

Price is right, expect it to lose £1k/month for the 1st 3 years. Doh!

From the blackberry website make sure you have the latest updates installed on your phone.

Happy driving, I totally love mine. cloud9

Sorry I'm late biggrin

The audio connectivity module allows you to connect an ipod, USB device or any audio device that has phono outputs. The USB and Phono's appear in the glove box and the ipod connector goes to the centre console. As triple7 pointed out this is a dealer fit item not factory fit.

Control is limited, it took Jag a long time to release it, I think they had a lot of problems with it so basically all you get is the ability to move up/down tracks and playlists using the steering wheel buttons. You get no track information which is a bit of a pain, but my god does it sound good. It's worth it if you use an iPod a lot biggrin

For the Blackberry you need to download the bluetooth pairing helper which is located here:-

http://www.blackberry.com/devicesoftware/entry.do?...

Hope that helps.

I've had an issue with my ipod kit (2003 XJ). Since it was fitted it would unexpectedly let out a squeal and then pack up - no music and no power / charging to the ipod. Very strange. Booked it back in and they replaced the whole kit.... but same problem! So it's booked back in and they are "replacing some wiring" apparently. Pick it up later in the week and I shall be on tenterhooks to see if this has resolved things.

The ipod controls are farily poor (compared to my last car). Each CD in your changer is replaced by a different ipod play list - well, the first 5 are. CD 6 is like a "play all" function. So you cannot easily pick a certain artist, for example. There is an option to control the ipod GUI and pick what you want (on CD 6) but I never managed to get this to work. The other frustrating thing is you cannot switch between CD changer and ipod on the fly, you have to turn the engine off. So because of the more sophisticated touch screen Pioneer system I used to have this Jaguar solution is a bit weak for me, but if you dont know any difference I suspect you will be pleased with it. Stand out strengths include fast access times and good sound quality.

My XJR is 2003 so did not come with Bluetooth. I got a snazzy Parrot system discretely installed inside te ashtray flip and it works extremely well, FYI. Shame I cant use the Jaguar phone, but who has two different mobile numbers these days? Thing of the past.

Anyway, good luck...

Hi Sunday driver, unfortunately the new XK ipod connector doesn't work like the one you have in the XJ, I wish it did but it does't take over the CD channel and use the 6 disc selection as the playlists, that would have at least given a little control. Us poor sods in the XK only get playlist and track selection from the steering wheel controls and that's it, it sounds bloody good though biggrin

hi and thanks for the info - still waiting to hear from the guy i bought the car from in the first place if there is actually ipod already installed - I can't see any wiring for it but he was adamant it was there - it went to a dealer in between me and him so i think he is speaking to the dealer to make sure it wasn't 'removed'! But find that hard to believe - surely it wouldn't be worth the hassle - particularly if they were to get caught doing it!! I will add it was apparently quite an old boy who owned it before me so . . .confused
Assuming one needs to be installed I will do it at it's first service in a few months time - if i can wait that long!

Just on question for any XKR owners - has anyone had 'Hand Brake cannot be applied' or 'Park Brake Failure messages'. I had this message once the first day i got the car - but then it worked fine for 2-3 days - then another - then fine - now appearing regularly?

Interesting, another XKR Portfolio owner from another forum has been having problems with his park brake and audio interface since delivery..................

Anbody had any trouble with Handbrake sticking on new shape XKR.
Have taken Portfolio back to dealers I am sure the handbrake is sticking or the rear passenger side Alcon caliper is playing up.I get an awfull noise every time i go out in the car after comming to a stop and setting off again.Car back at ********* for the second time to fix this fault.
One other worrying point I only use car at weekends all 4 brakes had stuck last Saturday is there a way of parking and turning of the ignition without the electronic hand brake comming on ?.

thanks for that
i don't think my problem is the same as that. I drive daily though, but hopefully that isn't the reason the brakes haven't stuck!!
I wasn't aware the handbrake was automatically applied when parked. My error message comes up (every tine now) when i flick the little hand break switch/lever behind the gearbox.
It isn't really causing e any problems (but i haven't had to park on a hill yet!) so i will probably leave it till the service is due.
Thanks for retrieving the post.

Soz if the post is misleading, but the handbrake does not come on when parked. Only if you chose to set it.

I am buying a 2008 XKR coupe today. What is the most recent info on the IPod interface installed at the dealer. Does it work? Cost? Anything else I should know.
If it works, is it any better then the wireless one that works thru the FM in the car, which plugs into the cig lighter?

Nothing to add to whats already above, it's still the same connection, doesn't offer much more functionality over the FM transmitter, but it sounds so so so so much better biggrin. FM transmitter is crap in comparison. Not sure of the exact cost of it though, around 300quid I think.

So what colour/spec of XKR are you getting? You'll luuuuuuv it biggrin
