i am test driving a vx220t tomorrow (sorry to swear here) the question is can the car be 'got out of' in a single garage i.e with a hard top on, as it looks like the dorr has to be opened wide - is this true, cos i can see myself having to wind the window down and jump over the door - is this everyones experience

btw my garage is a std single so 8 foot wide inside

The cars are pretty small really so it shouldn't be a problem. Park as far to the left of the garage as you can and attach some old carpet or foam to the area where the door is open if your worried about it.

Personally, I now get out of the car and push it in and out of the garage.... they don't weigh much, even the VXs.

I have a single garage. I have put wall defenders on so the doors can just be flung open. I let out the passenger before I back in and skew the parking so it is tight in across the left. With that done, no problem.

My garage is very narrow and I can get in and out ok with the roof on. When I say 'ok' though I'd admit that I probably look like a complete prat doing it. A few things that help, obviously parking as close to the opposite wall as possible and protecting the door so that it can be opened against the wall. Also, move the seat back as far as it will go and wind the window down. Oh, and yoga, do lots of yoga!

Would measure up if I was you - I have a load bearing wall support right where the door wants to open. that said with having a garage I never use the hardtop and roll the softtop half way accross to get in and out easy.

Don't let it stop you and do try getting into open air motoring - its not just for summer smile

Little or no effect on the weight of the garage wall where they are hung. My garage is not known for its high speed runs or high G turns...

I've got quite a small garage (I could sell tickets to watch my next door neighbour park his A5) and I get in fine and I can get out OK, although if you've got a passenger then you have to kick them out before you get into the garage as you have to park off-centre. I too have taped some cardboard onto the wall so that I can open the door without worry, the doors are actually pretty long so in order to open them fully you need a lot of space, I can only get mine half open, which makes it even less elegant getting out, but who cares in your own garage. I've got a hardtop on my elise at the moment.

Actually Loudman makes quite a valid point. Though, its looks a bit funny getting in and out of the Elise in my garage the E36 I had before was probably just as bad because it was wider. And, when that was in the garage, there was no room around it whatsoever. I can work on the Elise in the same space because it takes up a lot less room.
