That's a shame, a great character and he was a notoriously cranky sod but man could he drive funny cars. This will no doubt put his old mate the old fat truck driver from Yorba Linda even further in touch with his own mortality.
Rest in peace Al..

I found this out by txt yesterday while we were working on the car,i couldnt believe it .Its another one of the "real"drivers gone.Hoffmann was and is my drag racing icon he was just the best from his hard driving to his bad ass attitude.I was lucky enough to once watch Hoffmann and Force race (talk about a 50/50 grandstand split!)I was also lucky to get some of the Dunn/Hoffmann K&N merchandise before it was released to the general public so i guess i better get that stuff stored safely now!REST IN PEACE BIG AL Spookily i have just realised that the car im working on has an ex Hoffmann/Dunn bodyshell on!

our heroes are all older now
time always marches on
so take the pictures, cheer the cheers
because soon they will be gone

hey, to be gone and not remembered is the worst possible result of a life

Will always remember Al's war with John Force through the mid '90s, watching the Duke video reviews over and over it was some of the best racing I've ever watched.

One of the true fuel funny car pilots, not many could touch his talent
