Any views on whats the best shock absorber upgrade for a wedge?? Mines got some avos on but they are 6 years old and the adjusters seem to be shot, so I was wondering about changing them.

Did you fit them yourself? just wondering whether I'm competent enough to have a go. Done it on a fiesta before but thats a bit different...

I just put Koni shocks and uprated springs on my 280i. Stiff ride on bumpy roads, but corners there's like no yaw! I'm a shade tree mechanic and had the wrong type of spring compressor but still managed ok.

Avo's here and well impressed, but in need of slackening off a bit. One of those "i'll do it in a minute" jobs that I still havn't done for a few months.

Fitted AVO's to the 350 and it was a pig of a job (SEAC's easy as they are coil over type - ). All say the AVO's are good and they are relatively cheap. Get the SHPub Wedge Book on how to do the Job - it ain't easy and requires a special tool. If you fancy doing the job you can borrow the one I made but I'd advise getting a Wedge or Ford(cortina knowledge) person to do it.

AVO are based in northampton and will rebuild the shocks at something like 15-20 quid / shock depending on what needs doing.

Ta for the offer of the tool but use of words like 'aint easy' is telling me its an absolute swine to do. I've got the bible so I'd better re-read whats involved!!

What are those coilover things you mentioned....?

Are you just replacing the shocks or springs as well? The only job I have found difficult in this area is the front springs.Once jacked up the rears are not under tension so no problem there. On the front, if you jack up the lower wishbone it's easy to replace the shocks......the front springs are a pig but the correct compression tool will help.
