Inspecting an regreasing.

What constitutes wear? Pleased to say that most are still rubber mallet drift fit, but one insert could be pushed out by hand. All my red ones are the knurled inner variety, with the grey outers. These grey ones aren't as tight as the softer reds, but aren't lose. What are your experiences?

turn them round with the stainless insert in place. When new they will line up all the way round as you turn them. If worn you will find one of the red bushes will stick out more than the other (slightly oval shape). Can send pic if interested. Obvious one to check first is the lower outer rear as these take the most load. I currently run blacks on the rear lower and red for all others.

Reds wore to excessive play after 800 miles on the rear on mine... I'd fit the stiffest available on the rear and reds on the front as these lasted 5000 miles.

While taking everything apart it I would check the bump steer. Made a massive difference on my car!

Andy, do you kick your tyres to check the pressure, or do you use one of those old fashioned pre-Byzantine contraptions known as a gauge?

If you looked at the tyres on Andy's Ultima I think you would go for option A

As Andy says, jack the car up, grab the wheel top and bottom and attempt to rock it. Any play is very obvious and when you remove the offending bush, the central hole will be oval.
