Found out today that the eagle will have a paddle shift transmission.
Any one know if this an optional extra or standard?
From the limited i know about paddle shifts i do recall that most car makers have struggled to get them right first time and have taken a long time to develop.
I`m worried that if this is standard it might be ste!

Can't see Lotus developing their own. They'll use someone else's, DSG maybe?

If it's a Toyota engine, one would expect a Toyota gearbox. I don't think Toyota/Lexus have a DSG type box so I guess it'll be a slush box with manual control if they do offer one.

Can't see it. The money BMW threw into SMG was astronomical. Lotus don't have that kind of cash. Unless of course they are developing something for someone else party

Could you imagine a "S3" Exige, <800kg, carbon chassis, 280hp, 10K rpm with a 7 speed sequential box, more downforce and carbon ceramic brakes ... (the's no smiley for what I'm thinking)

I don't know which gearbox they are using, but I herd that the engine wasn't intended originally to be used with their choice of gearbox, apparently the overweight gearbox has come of a far heavier car and was only chosen because of the gear ratios, which still were not ideal.

They are having to use an adapter plate between the engine and box to make them fit together.

I'll keep my ears open !

Lexus does paddle shifts, and I'm guessing the engine is a lexus one, so prob no huge problem.
There was a hot lexus on fifth gear that tiff drove with a good paddle shift and annoying beep all the time to tell you to shift.

I think Mike Kimberly said somewhere that there will be a paddle shift option to accommodate the american market.

I think it will be an option which comes later. I wouldn't panic about it: it's too expensive to be included within the standard package, and doesn't really fit with the usual lotus ethos.

No chance of it being a Lotus gearbox unless it was developed for an engineering client.....

Was a sticking point on the m250 - trying to find a transaxle to allow the engine to go in longitude.

Ricardo or similar company may have something avalable but my thoughts would be toyota sourced unit. for US an auto box with manual overide would likely be ok wink

A quote from Mike Kimberley late last year:

"It's a 2+2 tourer with a transverse mid-ship V6 from Toyota with whom we have had a 28 year relationship. There will be 7 variants including a convertible and a paddle-shift transmission and the price will be competitive, between £45000 and £48000."

Where's the speculation - he has stated everything quite clearly.
