Hello all i've just bought a 400 se the engine in the car is out of a chimaera 400. When the car is ticking over the tick over is lumpy. When i am driving the car at a constant speed the car is very jerky . However when i boot it the car pulls cleanly ?? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the cause could be . Thanks Dave.

Hi Dave.

I have a similarly equipped car (which I've just bought back..today smile )

Mine was spluttering a bit, and down on power when originally purchased first time around, and
one question that arose was: did the Chim ECU get transferred with the engine? Seems an unlikely mistake, and maybe thay're the same anyway, but worth a check.

As it happened mine did have correct ECU, but timing was well out ( had just had new cam fitted ), and the engine tuners found that the distributer was a bit "fluttery"...needed a replacement.

I'm sure the proper experts will have some answers for you, but just my two penneth.

Do you have a rising rate fuel pressure regulator? Would not expect this an a chim engine, but you never know. This needs to be setup correctly or replaced with correct FPR. If it is faulty or fuel pressure is wrong, it could be that it is only fine when accelerating....

Ignition system and setup could be another one as mentioned before.

You may want to clean the Idle valve also.

Hmmm - just remembered.

On the hotwire system, correct 'tune resistor' needs to be fitted, depending on whether ECU was programmed to be used with cat' or non-cat' engines. This could be an issue when tranferring engine (and ECU) from Chim to Wedge.
Another thing I investigated at the time, and found to be ok with mine.

RPI site has full details...plus lots of other fascinating stuff for sad individuals like me who are hiding indoors from the crappy weather. hehe
