First post missing from topics

Why is the first post missing from all old topics? It has been that way for ages and pointed out many times. I have just pent a while looking for a topic from 5 years ago. I did it on the off chance that the first post had been quoted, however it wasn't. Any chance this can be sorted so that old threads can actually be viewed.

This point has been raised loads of times.

I reckon it's down to an update whereby the first post used to be post #0 in a thread, this then got changed so the first post became #1 so it loads from #1 to #infinity meaning the old threads still have the original post stored in the database but it's not called for by the software.

My reckoning for this is, the "Posts" column used to be called "Replies" and said 0 when a thread was posted, when this changed threads started going wrong as when it got to 21 posts it would load a new page, but as there was only 20 posts it would be blank until someone else replied.

The powers that be have said they're going to fix it, but it's not happened for a while now.

It's as a result of a restructuring I did in 2005/6.

The first post on the thread used to be stored with the 'topic' rather than with the replies. That was inefficient so I moved to a schema in which all posts were grabbed from one place. Strictly speaking I should have run a job to convert all the old data to comply with the new structure.

They're still in the system, but it would require a one off job to be written to reinstate them.

I bookmarked a few my topics of the past . . . Miura-topic and all . . . Funny to read it back: the 'first post now' makes a different sense . . .
