Check those fuel lines!!!
Discussion
I'm probably teaching people to suck eggs here, but when was the last time you thoroughly checked your flexible fuel line?
I just found this

Now it had been fine last year but when I fired her up and drove her there was a definite smell of petrol. Sure enough, mine was weeping. So why am I reminding people? Because I could just have easily been posting up about a total loss
Go on, give yours a check today, it's too slippery for hooning and if you haven't checked yours for a while the cold might have just finished it off!!

Not knowing where the fuel lines go is the one you cannot see around the back of the plenum ?? and can you beef up the type of fuel line used ?
Yup, that's the beastie
Pop the plenum off and you can get to it ok(ish!) I've just used the stuff from Millfield, it's the same spec as was fitted. I also got a couple of proper fuel pipe clamps at the same time as mine was done with jubilee clips.HRG said:

Leven pointed out that the outer of my fuel lines were cracked last time my car was in for a service. Getting them changed next time my car is in. Worth spending £20 when you look at what could potentially happen!
Not sure i would've waited

His Bird is Cool Though

IIRC, checking the fuel hoses is part of the service procedure, but I wonder how many garages really follow the manufacturer's service schedule?
After checking mine about a month ago, I found that one fuel hose had been replaced at some time and the other was definitely showing its age with a few cracks along it's length (I wonder why the garage didn't change the other one
) so I decided that I'd get them both replaced.
It's simply not worth taking a chance with pressurised fuel.

d with a passion, then I got the Griff and my nemesis was outed so "TheGriffalo" seemed apt. Last week however my daughter told me I should change it to HRG (Horn Rimmed Glasses from Heroes) and I liked it more. I reckon this one is a keeper
Am I safe now Del?

ok one quick question what do you do to change it, the system is pressurised, so what is the procedure ??
Don't run the car for a while, there won't be much pressure.Undo the six hex socket plenum bolts, disconnect the stepper motor wiring and the small air pipe underneath it. Undo the pipe from the AFM and then flip the plenum on it's back and put rags in the trumpets.
Undo the clip at the fuel rail end and disconnect the fuel pipe. You won't lose that much fuel if it hasn't run for a couple of days TBH but have a container and rag ready just in case.
Next look down between the heater pipes and the bulkhead, you can just see the other end of the pipe. Somehow you can get a screwdriver or a 7mm spanner on it if you're dextrous, but it definitely feels like you're filming an episode of "All Creatures Great And Small"! It takes a bit of wriggling and swearing but it'll come off in the end.
It really is worth doing, my car had been fine last summer but the cold of winter seemed to finish it off. 2nd shakedown run of the year (it wasn't disconnected or touched during my rebuild) and she was leaking enough fuel to trash the car. I'm much happier knowing it's done and to the poster thinking of waiting, I was of that opinion too!!!!!
