Hi guys first post Realised that instead of looking at new boring diesel mile munchers for about £6000 less than my £35000 limit i could get a 2004-5 dream car the xk8 coupe.

Problem is i do 70-160 miles a day within the M25.

What do you xk8 drivers manage to get mpg in the real world please.Your input would be very much appreciated.

I have an xj8 which should be worse and never see less than 20mpg on the computer even when I spend lots of time in town. I rarely see much more than 22 however!. Sure if you are on a motorway run it can get into high 20s but on average its 21-22.

To be honest the costdifference in fuel between 20 and 23 really isn't that much over a year. If you want it buy it - what's the worst that can happen.

Actually I'll answerr that for you - sitting in a car that bores you, but costs you £5 a day less than the one you really want - thats the worst.

You could also try for the best of both worlds and get an LPG conversion done. One or two XK owners have and seem happy enough with the outcome.

If you buy a 4.2ltr XK8, then low twenties would be a reality. They however would be in the teens, if you drive hard in stop start traffic. On the Motorway you will see 30MPG+

That's a heck of annual mileage. I think the fuel cost is one thing, but your real frustration would be range. 250 miles on a tank would see you forever filling up! The depreciation would also kill you because there's less appetite for a leggy XK than a leggy oil burner.

You have a great budget to find a nice performance diesel (a 535D or 335D would suit you well), but if you can compromise on the performance an XF diesel would be a lovely place to be whilst pounding those streets and has coupe-esq looks, ditto the Merc CLS 320CDI.

OR - buy a Mondeo TDI *and* an XK. Worth considering.

Thanks for all your thoughts guys, yes its a step to far.Went to Chiltern ind. in herts with my partner sat in a few value for money unbelievable ie xkr conv 2002 25000 miles £25000 .

Have to say though in all honesty i felt very claustrophobic and i would never have got on with them which is a good thing!!!
