Had the first time to enjoy the car today, and all's well bar a bit of smoke coming off the passenger side heat shield.

is this something that will 'burn off' after time, is there anything that can be done to 'treat' them, or is it an engine out job to replace them ?

Its likely that the foil blanket in the engine bay has exposed its gauz matting. Its probably damp and the heat from the manifolds is drying it out.Nothing to worry about.

yep, part of the silver 'outer cover' has come away, and YES there's some damp in there after a wash'n'wax.

Will enough heat dry it out and is the gauze matting OK without the silver covering on it ?

cheers
