After a very problematic build up to the season, missed the first meeting, Matts at Donnington this weekend. Has only ever had three laps at Donny so loads for him to learn and almost zero hours on the bike since last years accident + ste weather his up against it. This year he is in with the powerbikes, these guys are quick and are either using club meetings to practice for British Supersport or ready to move up to that sector.
Straight out of the box Matt manages a superb 6th place on grid during Saturday qualifying, out of a grid of 38 riders he was well pleased with that result. I have yet to have it confirmed but I believe Matt finished 12th in race, slightly disapointed but taking all into consideration an excellent result. He is still on his 'old donkey' of a bike (2003) albiet rebuilt during winter with a few tasty bits bolted on. Maybe next season he will be on an 2009 bike.

He rides in the BMCRC/MRO Powerbike series, this year the grid is made up of both MRO and BMCRC riders. Matt is also looking at the new Thundersport Club in its first season.

The Thundersport looks good as long as they hae decent sized grids . . . Am I correct in thinking this is the series that is ressurrecting the Norton rotary in a new form ?

Yes the Rotary is racing in this club along with ex 500cc GP bikes which should help make interesting racing alongside all manner of quick stuff. I gather that the club has agreed television coverage of some of the racing, not sure which channels but assume the smaller Men and Motors type of thing. Great for riders looking to move up tho to have a chance of media exposure.

I mentioned earlier that Matt had been offered a ride on the new Kawasaki ZX-10R with Colchester 'Hawk' Kawasaki. Could'nt quite manage the funding for a full season with them which was a great shame. Still maybe next season.

Matt went to the Thundersport first meeting and the paddock did look a little thin unfortunately. But under the management of Dave and Bernny I'm sure that will not be the case for long. Matt suffered with mechanical gremlins that day + it was p*ssing with rain and very cold grumpy

Is that Staurt Hickens Hawk Kawasaki ?

I was in there pit garage at Donington for the last BSB round there last year. There's Mr Hicken in the middle of it changing a clutch. Gotta give it to him, he really keeps that team going, and would you see Mr Bird, Mr Mcelnea or Mr Healey getting their hands all oilly changing a clutch on one of the race bikes between races ?

It's be good to have somone local to shout on in the BSB paddock, when is he racing at Snetterton ?

With the BSB season, Le Mans, MotoGP at Assen and the WSB/MotoGP rounds here . . . not to mention trying to squeeze in some TVR racing this year and the GT's the calendar looks pretty full so far, but I'd like to come and see him in action at the local circuit . . .

Unfortunately its not thee 'Hawk' Kawasaki team that Matt was offered a ride with, but it is assosiated. Colchester Kawasaki Director Ian Stewart are a sponsor of the 'Hawk' team, as such Ian Stewart is apparently permitted to use the 'Hawk' name for his sponsorship of his own team, hence Colchester 'Hawk' Kawasaki. Thee 'Hawk' team apparently assist Colchester 'Hawk' with technical assistance. So if you like Colchester 'Hawk' Kawasaki is a 'B' team, Ian is helping up and coming riders in this 'B' team. I know he has two quick riders for the 600 class but Matt could'nt do the big bike class (money)and so maybe next season. Its a fantastic ride to be offered but like so many other racers it comes down to budgets in the end.

Still Matt is racing on his own bike a Crecent Suzuki Gixer, old machine but he seems to get it around a track quickly. But he is giving away something like 1 second a lap against a new chassis, simply down to advancement in design. His at Oulton Park this Saturday racing in the Thundersport club series. Its one of the circuits he has never ridden. I let you know when he is at Snetterton.

Also you can log onto www.mylaps.com and search Matt Lobb to see his times and of course all the other riders in all the classes, also car race times in loads of different clubs/classes. Its an interesting site for enthusiasts to log onto thumbup his race number is 83 and you can read up on his past race meetings together with an action pic'.
