Hi all was planning to visit this summer and in preperation I was hoping to learn the circuit.

With that in mind what is the best system to use to learn. Gameboy? playstation or computer program.

Any advice?

Playstation is good but nothing can prepare you for the real thing.

Keep the speed up when you go round the carosel and don't take it too low or you'll end up shaking all the fillings out of your teeth.

I can't emphsise enough the use of mirrors that's needed. Last year there was a company offering rides around the circuit in Dodge Vipers and if they catch you on the straight then they wont hesitate to overtake you at speeds in excess of 170mph.
There's also the possibility of coming across both Coaches and Trucks on your way round.
We came across both last year.

Just after we started last year we had a Motorbike in front of us (Fazer) he went up the hill in front of us and missed a blind right hander at the top and carried on into the trees.

Dont be suprised if you come across road works halfway round the circuit either as they use the public time to maintain the track.

If you really want to time your lap then get someone else to do it thats not in the car with you. You really do need 100% concentration.

Drive the course as smoothly as you can and you should get a fairly good lap time in.

This one's free and much more realistic on the controls than other games.

Cheers Guys downloading as I type.
Want to learn prior to visiting, as I`m more than likely to follow the same line Faser did into the shrubbery.
Also as the car`s a match for a Viper I`m not sure I`d let it go without a try which could also end in tears.

Repeat this 100 times a day: "It is a one way road, not a racetrack."

Remember they don't race F1 there any more because they kept killing people. Treat it like a B-road you've never been down before, not an A-road you drive every day.

I'm going later this year for the first time. Can't wait smile

Me too, i'm going in May with a few friends for a long weekend.
Read everything on Ben Lovejoys site, especially the 'Ring Trips as it gives you a feel for what it's like when you are there. Other than that, hope it's fun!!

What he said, it'll be very hard to learn all the corners 100% and if you get it wrong it'll go very badly. I had a few issues when i went last year along the lines of "oh st I thought that went straight on" when infact it went sharp left etc.

I drove it like a normal blast along with the other nutters from around here and it was sooooo much fun, can't wait to go back.

I've done the 'Ring on a bike and in a car (but I'm no expert). Would seriously suggest keeping an eye on your mirrors - there's always someone quicker/more experienced/stupid out there. However, in my experience slower vehicles will generally move over for you, and fast guys will overtake when it's sensible if you make an effort to keep right. If you are particularly quick around corners, beware sports bikes that slow down on corners (I've noticed a touch of "all the gear, no idea" going on). My wife drove the 'Ring last summer for the first time in very wet conditions - she loved it! - being of a nervous disposition I had to keep reminding her that it would be a long trip home on the back of a break-down truck...

Just remembered: first time I went to the 'Ring was on a bike. My experienced guide said "Wherever you see people watching, slow down. 'Cause that's where people crash..."

Go before they ban it!

If you're going there for a couple of days try go go with one day in the week eg: get there on Friday morning stay locally Friday and Saturday night and come back on the Sunday.

The reason I say this is that on weekdays the track is closed to the public until about 5pm when they open it to the public for a few hrs.

When the track is closed to the public you then get the oppertunity to see what cars they are testing around the track smile

These are the cars we saw being tested last May.

Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.
Jaguar XF-R.
Aston Martin DBS.
BMW X6.
Vauxhall Insignia.
Mercedes C63 AMG.
Mercedes CLK63 AMG.
Lexus ISF.
Audi Q5.
and a new Porsche Cayenne turbo.

Pictures were sold to Autocar and can be seen here http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsGallery.aspx?AR=...

We are there again in May this year staying at Sabine Schmitz Hotel so I'll post photo's of what we see on this site smile
