Hi all,

My old banger is nearly ready for the body on - maybe next weekend.

Things to do

Still waiting for the handbrake cable, it should be here Wed next week - this will be the third attempt, first one was for a V8s, second manufactured too short.
I put in rally design rubber mounts to get clearance for the ARB approx 15mm - now the f******g exhaust down pipes wont fit, so I need to extend them.
Steering bulkhead bearing - I may do that with the body on.

2 things I am struggling with -

Can anyone tell me where I can get the nut on the end of the clutch fluid pipe that goes into girling reservoir, Ive tried motor factors / brake and clutch centres and a scrapyard without luck.
Is there anywhere that I can buy the rubber mouldings that hold the windscreen washer bottle to the body. I had 2 broken.

Looking very nice mate, I dropped the body back on to mine last week, it's a real bugger to get everything lined up properly, it's still not 100% there yet but struggling to get the time due to having to do it outdoors.

sean..major point to watch when you drop the body back on is the seat belt mounting bolts make sure you clean out the threads first and when the body is back on the rubber packing make sure the bolts go through into the mounts,and dont forget to take the handbrake off and push the wiring that goes to the reversing switch and speedo back down the tunnel before the body is right down on the chassis.

Hi Ken,

All the threads have been tapped out, with the wires - should I tape them underneath the body - if so where ?, handbrake cable will be tied somewhere handy - if anyone has any handy tips or links to body on preps, please feel free to advise - all help will be gratefully received and used.

sean just tape the wires up in the transmission tunnel and i just left the handbrake quadrant laying on the chassis at the side of the gearbox...with the clutch m/cylinder pipe as you have found out its an odd size the pipe is easily found but the nuts for want of a better term are not with the right size hole i just got the ones with the small hole in them and drilled them out

Are they gas fitting nuts on the clutch pipe ? I cant find anything near it at the moment - where did you get yours from ?

Sean looking good - I have nearly done my welding now just one of the small seat belt brackets to do on top of the tube and its all done. You're miles ahead of me.

midnight motors 200 yards from wembley stadium but seeing as its you i think i have one i will look tomorrow and let you know...mine is just waiting for me to re-bleed the brakes set the tracking somewhere near and it can go for the mot

Hi Chris,

Once your welding is done - the chassis and individual part shotblast and paint is very quickly completed if you have got someone else doing it - its a huge boost / milestone and its starts going back together quickly when your on a roll. Dont forget why you took it apart (and mine) - it needed welding and that is nearly complete so you are getting there.

Can't help you but that rolling chassis look absolutley brilliant. Wish mine was in that state!

Thanks Ken - I think I owe you a drink - in the summer maybe.

Junglie - It was in a shocking state in early December - its a shame to put the body back on - probably look different after wax oil.

Rocky good on you - it must have been difficult doing a body off outside - just goes to show what dedication can do. What method did you use to put the body on?

Thursday night I will do the wax oiling - if my handbrake cable turns up - I rang today about it - he will get back to me - yeah right - Ill ring again tomorrow - he is that layed back that I think he takes valium as a pick me up.

Just a question - when I disconnected the brake & feul lines there was not any protection between the pipes & the tie wraps to the chassis - I have put rubber around the pipes prior to tieing them to the chassis - rather safe than sorry.

Barkychoc one of the reasons you are slightly behind me is that you built your fantastic lifting device - I went striaght for the brute force and ignorance (9 people on a Sunday morning), Im a bit worried about using the same statergy to put it back on though.

sean be careful with the pipe protection i did the same to mine and when i could not get the body to sit down right i had to lift it again and i removed most of the protection and it was ok after that. i think the area causing problems was where the pipes run on the top chassis rail above the diff. put plenty of paper/plastic/rag down on the floor when you waxiol as the floor ends up like a skating rink and if you have fitted the exhaust box wrap it with paper

I used two hoists (one either end). Had a bit of a moment lowering the front a bit to quickly and smashed the dizzy cap, at the moment I'm waiting for a break in the weather to adjust it, it would appear to need the two rearmost 'L' shaped bkts reworked as the body is tight against them and still needs to go back around 10mm or so.

john mine was also tight and needed ,to go back the oil filler on mine was nearly touching the body but when i lifted it again and put it back down it was ok i assume it was down to the above post

Hi all,

I rang about the handbrake cable - it doesnt sound like it will be here this week, which gives me another Sunday of pottering around,getting every thing just right. Im not sure if I should fit the clutch pipe after as it is really tight on mine, maybe drop it on then lift to a partial position and feed the pipe through and check for any areas of near or touch - Im starting to get worried, but I am also looking forward to it.

sean i posted the pipe nut this morning i fitted my clutch pipe at the slave first and routed it along the chassis and left it nr the battery tray i fitted the body and just pulled it about after the body was on ,its not too bad
