Would like to grow some herbs indoors.
Ideally, all sorts.

Lets draw up a shortlist of perhaps half a dozen herbs which could be used for most/many dishes, which grow indoors (easily from seeds, etc) which would supply a home kitchen.

Its a waste paying the supermarkets £1-2 quid for a small dose of pre-cut herbs which are dead within days/a week, besides which its far more interesting growing your own.

I humbly suggest garlic and onion chives, mainly because they are delish, and ive grown them easily in the past. What else? Id quite like to add rosemary to the list, but from what I understand they are/turn into large bushes.

Softer Herbs I would imagine work well indoors.

Not sure about indoors but we grow Chives, Rosemary, Thyme (2 varieties), mint, oregano and marjoram. In the summer I'll also grow basil and Coriander - these two might do okay inside as long as they get reasonable sunlight.

Oh yes got a fairly large bay tree as well.

If you have the moolah - you could try one of these;

http://www.aerogarden.org.uk/?gclid=CO2tlcKiqJICFQ...

Was suggested on PH a while back and I saw one in the flesh a couple of weeks ago - really nifty I thought, but HOW much! :O

I personally bought one of these;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Botanico-Strawberry-Herb-P...

And put it just within arm's reach of the patio door for when it's peeing down with rain and I need herbs. They have lasted the winter in it and seem pretty happy.

Nice find! Both look fantastic. Ive just ordered the second one... will have to wait as it isnt in stock yet, that'll give me time to whittle down the list of tasty herbs which can be grown indoors (Sadly, I dont have an outdoors ATM).

Only last night I popped some chilli seeds in the airing cupboard. Little bit of compost and covered them over - not sure if they're going to take.
These included jalapinos, cayenne pepper, habanero and californian poppy something!

We have sage, thyme, rosemary and bay in the garden and basil in a pot on the window sill. I've never had much luck growing corianderfrown Although I stayed at a curry house in Dorset that grew it in their garden (To cut a long story short it was late and we needed somewhere to camp so we promised to eat and drink as much as we could if we could camp in their garden, chef's answer was yes but mind the corianderhehe)

We also had more chillis and tomatoes than we knew what to do with last year, I still have some dried onesbiggrin
