I rode through North Wales yesterday on-route to Bristol and they got me .... 80 mph in a 60 using what they’re calling ‘covert’ speed traps, middle of nowhere and quiet roads.

Essentially they’re hiding un-marked cars in the bushes with a gun ... two T5’s were blocking the road a little further along, after I left they reversed behind parked cars making them impossible to see in either direction!

I sat in the back of the car and it felt like a simple taxation exercise .... no naughty naughty / slow down in future / you could have killed yourself .... just here is your ticket and on your way??!!

I knew the North Wales Police were on the offensive but I didn’t realise it was this bad .... 10 minutes later cars are flashing there lights so I slow and there is another trap around the corner! Could have been 6 points in the space of 10 minutes!

As far as I’m concerned this pretty much makes North Wales a no go area on a bike?

Glossop (Derbyshire) Easter Sunday 2 coppers in a van parked in layby, a cable to a yellow box on a tripod hidden behind a container lorrry. They were laughing as we passed must have been having a good time. It is clear the Police are now doing covert speed (collecting revenue) because most people are now very much aware of speeding and are being very cautious. Plod has to keep his revenue up so the fkers are now hiding in the bushes mad

If I saw people in a layby sneaking around container lorries, I'd call the police.

That's exactly what it is - hence it's a penalty, not a conviction. It generally doesn't even affect insurance now. As long as you're not daft then you could get 1 per year and not have any problem.

Thats not the way to stop it. All that happens is you end up getting people doing the speed limit on an nice road looking for police, then turning around and going down it faster than they normally would because they never get the chance.

I've not been to Wales for years, I even wrote to the Welsh tourist board telling them that one of the reasons was overzealous traffic enforcement - got a sympathetic reply which hinted that I was not the only one that felt this way.

How long before the rest of the UK is like this though, I wonder........... frown

I’ve never rode in North Wales before and probably never will again now! Where does North Wales become Mid Wales become South Wales?

I’m up to 6 points now and starting to get concerned .... the thing is I was taking it really easy at the time because of the weather. I dare say if it had been a dry sunny day I wouldn’t have a licence anymore!

Same on the M6 at 08:00 on Saturday morning, north bound! Stop at sevices and about 10 Eastern Europeans jump out of an old Nissan but due to not speeding not stopped!

I realise that that's said TIC, but you really do have to be careful when you're out of built-up areas - you see a nice stretch of open road, the Police and Scamera partnerships see a revenue generating oportunity.

I got caught on the (then) new A500 M6 to Nantwich link road a couple of years ago - a beatifully made speed trap! Luckily I was "only" doing 85, but the policeman on the bridge was invisible against the sky. I've seen them hiding in the shadow of the bridge too.

Clearly you should only exceed the speed limit where there are poor lines of sight etc. rolleyes

EVERY single person in the UK does not keep to the limits all the time. Show the person that says they have never broken a speed limit and I will show you a lier or deluded fool. Or a senior Police officer, no they do it too judge

And before the Trolls start yes my licence is clean, but there is a whole lot of good fortune in that fact.

a few friend's went from cardiff to north wales last year. going through a 30 area at the speed limit.
cutting a long story short they had just gone over the boarder (sort of) to north wales. a copper pull them 3 on ltr bikes. asked them were they come from. said cardiff. and the copper told them to turn around and go home. we don't want bikers hereeek

they said they have done nothing wrong, which they had not. so the copper said, turn around or I will get VOSA ovwer and check the bikes to make sure they are all road legal, will take about 3 hours and if anything is found they will also be done for obstructing a police officerbanghead
can't win.

now that may just be 1 tt of a copper.

I have never had a problem with the south wales police. yesterday 2 gave me a nice wave as I was doing 30 in a 30 zone. ( only reason was I was slowing down for my mate in it kit car who was having problems overtaking the traffichehe

If that story is really true, and it sounds pretty incredible, that would surely be a case to make a complaint.

Mind you, this tale is one reason why I keep my bikes fully road legal, plates, cans, the lot.

If some beligerant plod wants to go over me with a fine tooth comb I can just sit there with a big smug grin on my face knowing that I have nothing to fear. And whilst s/he's messing around with a legal bike, s/he's being distracted from chasing other hooning bikers hehe
