E36 328I-Help needed!

Afternoon people,

Took the car to get mot'd the other day and it failed.....

I was quoted a figure of £800 to rectify it, needless to say I paid them for the mot and took the car home! The mechanic did say that overall the car was in good nick so it would be worth getting the work done.

I have a friendly local mechanic that will do it as a homer and was keen to get a rough idea of how much you think the parts will/should cost?

The list is as follows:

Rear discs and pads
Rear stop light
Rear Handbrake shoes
Front wishbone arm bushes
Metal brake pipes all round.

Any help/info would be appreciated as I found the amount the garage who Mot'd the car unnacceptable as I did not pay much more for the whole car!

Where about's in the country are you? could get that lot done for about half the price.

Depends on where you get the parts from, try calling your local Euro Car Parts or German, Swedish & French.

Parts only prices I paid about 2 weeks ago were

Just under £25 incl vat and fitting kit

Presume you mean the lower front wishbone rear bushes. I upgraded to powerflex ones about £35 incl

Metal brake pipes all round.
Not sure on this. Mine will need doing next year.

Of course the prices may vary a little depending on what year the vehicle is

Search on these suppliers websites for the prices of the spares you need.

That lot should be easily done for around £400-£500 at an independant.

Unlikely you need lower arms unless the balljoints are shot, and they would have failed too. Just those notorious rear bushes should be OK, and use Powerflex!

Thanks for the input people,

The price of £750 was from a respected indy in Aberdeen, I was hoping the price was nearer the £450 mark tbh....

The rear bushes were done last year and have only covered 1500 miles.

The work is getting priced this weekend so will post up prices/progress etc...

If it's the brake pipes over the petrol tank you don't necessarily have to drop the tank to fix them - find an indy who doesn't and it'll save some cash
