Following a conversation in work I google searched Aspecto Limited, the name of my company.

The first result being www.aspectolimited.com

That company/persons/website has nothing to do with my company and the only other company registered with companies house with Aspecto in the name is Aspecto Clothing Company Limited.

Their website seems to be rather short on some essential information -

no company number
no postal address
no VAT number (if they are VAT registered)

Are they registered alsewhere - Irish Republic, Isle of Man, The Channel Islands?

Is there an easy way to find that kind of information out? The equivalent(s) of companies house?

Phone no. on their site is a Jersey one.

This happened to me in the past, I just rang the guy up, he was a sole trader trading under the same name, I owned the limited company name and was actively using it. There was very little I could do, other than establish that he was a one-man band operating in a particular industry in a particular area of the country. Having established that we wouldn't encroach on each other, we just agreed to pass any mis-directed communications to the other party.

I would ring them up and have a 'little' chat, make sure their business doesn't encroach onto yours, and just get on with life.

Eric's hunch is correct.

Their telephone dialing code is for Jersey, where they could have registered as a limited company.

Not sure there is much can be done, as it looks like they are legitimate. I don't think they are looking to trade or make it look like they are you. I would have a work with an IP solicitor. Now may be a good time to step up this area with perhaps trade mark registration.

The Republic of Ireland has a "Companies House" in Dublin - it's called the Companies Registration Office".

http://www.cro.ie/search/

I'm sure a quick Google under "Copmpany Registration Isle of Man" or Company Registration Channel Islands/Jersey/Guernsey/Alderney/Sark" will turn up their respective registration offices.

Cheers for the replies folks.

Went fairly bezerk when I came across it due to recent happenings with mortgage applications supposedly being filed by my company which I still havent got to the bottom of!

I'll give them a call and find out what the script is.
