O.K. Guys: I have read the threads regarding kit car registration. I am american and therefore not as knowledgable about this, as the rest of you but I think I get it. Let me add a few thoughts, one fellow uses the example of kit airplanes being inspected more rigidly then kit cars, as an example of why more strenuous requirmnents should be imposed on cars. Lets see if I make the same mistake on the fuel system in my kit airplane that I made on my GTR the result is?????? I am dead, as are the people with me and maybe some on the ground. I fly for a living I know what I speak about. The kit airplane builder has no wiggel room it has to be 100% on the first flight. Obviously that was a poorly constructed argument, Second point. One writer eluded to kit car regestration in the U.S. as finding a loop hole and then in some unholy manner regestering the car. Thats not true I live in California, believe me the Politicaly Correct monster was born here. But I registered my GTR in complete compliance with state laws and it was very benign and cost a grand total of about $125 for inspections and $450 for registration for the year. Plus I have NOOOOOO year after year inspections to put up with. I consult on issues related to helicopter operations all over the world. Outside of perhaps Japan, the E.U. air regulations are the most screwed up mess in the world. They allow zero room for good descion making by the pilot. Proactive risk vs gain is out the door. Now here,s my point, the next time you see the U.S. going its own way on things like the world court or the U.N. don't thing globaly, think about how screwed up your laws and your great kit car industry might become if you follow Europes lead. I know this post is not strictly about Ultima's but it is about the freedom that each of us who busted our butts to have and build a Ultima, love. Lee
