Search isn't working again can you post a link to the thread you found.

Probably best not to make flashing the dash public, better on a need to know for those who want to preserve their full history.

I would like an email with that information too please. I didn't know about fitting an external battery. Could you give details of that too please. I imagine its simple.

My car lost its original reading. The service book (filofax) and documents in the history file record speedo replacement at a TVR main agent. The new speedo read zero, but now shows about 16K miles.

It shows odometer reading prior to replacement (31K). It seems the details were registered with the TVR factory, not that that means much any more. frown

This shows as a mileage discrepancy on an HPI check, which wouldn't be removed if I corrected it.

So, should I leave it alone or flash it, your thoughts gentleman?

i would leave alone you have a record that the speedo was replaced if you correct the total mileage with the record you have got it would look as if the car has done another 31k

Just done this on mine - 94 Chim 400.

My speedo mileometer was doing the same thing - starting the car the reading would be zero and at the end of the journey the distance for the journey prior to switching the engine off would be shown. Upon restarting however, the mileometer reading would be zero again.

The cause, as has been described, is a faulty battery that stores the mileometer reading when the ignition is switched off.

I thought about looking for the battery and replacing it (or them?) but then I wanted the mileage to be correct so decided to send it off for repair. Speedy cables were almost universally recommended so I sent it there - its back now and working fine with the correct mileage - price was £80.

Only thing I would add is that it took longer than I thought - over a month - as they were busy. Wasn't realy an issue as my car was off the road having other work done but its worth asking if you decide to take this option.

Hope this helps

I thought they were mechanical (as opposed to digital) odometers on the early ones?

Funny you should say that...was looking at one the other Chims at the NE TVRCC meeting, a later one, and it had the mechanical type (ie rotating numbers)...yet mine has a digital one?
