Hi, well my 360 has finally met its death whilst thrashing my f430 around silverstone on forza 2.Does anyone know if microsoft are still accepting any 360 for repair/replace with a new one if yours has broken? do you need a receipt or is it just a case of boxing it up and send it off to them and if so does anyone know the contact details?

cheers

That's the "support agent". You'll need the serial number to check it's still under warranty if it's not an RROD fault. If it's not RROD and you are out of warranty, get busy with a towel.

You register the fault on there. Same day you'll be emailed a UPS Label. Ring UPS, they'll arrange pickup. You usually only need to send the console - remove the HDD. Once they've picked it up, expect a 2 week wait, it comes back. Mine came back with 1 month of xbox live voucher, a new motherboard and new drive.

If you moan like a bd to Robbie Bach, someone will send you a free wireless peripheral or 3.

Contact details (be warned, they are muppets IWE. Always best to speak to a supervisor)

Sorry to hear you've suffered the RROD. Provided your console is less than 3yrs old then Microsoft will fix/replace it under warranty. If you still have the packaging and manuals you should be able to find a support line phone number. If not, your best bet is the xbox website. www.xbox.com

Sure someone with first hand experience of this will be along shortly to offer a more detailed answer.

Hope you get it back soon...and that it's not replaced with another broken xbox. Which has been known to happen.

How long have you had it? There was a 1 year warranty for all Xbox 360s but this however was extended to 3 years if you had the RROD.

Well if it's RROD, you are fine. Be sure it is:

As long as it looks like that, you'll get a free repair. Like I said, moan enough and they'll compensate you with a bunch of peripherals.

I assume your previous post was meant to say "It is not the RROD". If you want to make your 360 RROD you should be able to do it my taping over the vents and leaving it on for a while. Although, i've also heard of this method (temporarily) fixing RROD issues.

(ETA - Just seen the above post, ignore comment about previous post)

It usually means the video cable has come out of the back of the console - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906652

I got my 360 in about July last year and didn't bother to send off the little post card thing to register it with Microsoft. If I get the RROD, is a copy of the shop/debit card receipt good enough to prove it is less than 3 years old, or will they already know?

Shall I send off the card tomorrow and will I get 3 years from when they get it?

Cheers

They can tell when it was manufactured from the serial no.

Yeah, but they def screw up.*cough* someone *cough* bought his in December 06, hooked it up to Live in January 07, posted off the card in late March 07. In Feb 08, it died. The support agent registered it as under warranty until end of March 08.

RROD or not, a console not lasting more than 18 months or so isn't acceptable.
Take it back to where you bought it and discuss this fact with the manager in a voice loud enough to scare off any customers in the shop (take deep breaths if it's a big comet or summat) and then demand a new one.
If the manager doesn't want to play ball, ask them to use their phone to call trading stnadards and for their head office contact details.

Mine went pop last week too (14 months of average use, in a well ventilated spot). UPS picked it up a few days ago....had a week off for easter and a new game to play too frown

Anyone know where you stand when the RROD recurs. do you get another 3 years warranty with the repaired unit?

And do they actually change anything or just patch it up....will the RROD happen again?

Fundamentally $hite design fault really, my brothers PS2 still works a treat after 6odd years.

Depends on the fault. On mine, the case was the same, but I got a new board and drive.

As to what the new warranty is, it seems unclear to me. What I do know is that my original warranty would have run out a week ago, but since I got it back, the support agent just says my console is "in warranty". Previously there was a date. I can't see anything on the warranty faq.

Edit - I must be cursed. My zx81 lived forever, my speccy needed a new keyboard, my ST, megadrive, snes and n64 and dreamcast were fine. My ps1 died and I went through 5 ps2s - the last one dying the day that San Andreas was released! My slim ps2 was fine.

is this still happening with the newer consoles still on the market, if so, you would have though MS would have sorted the problem

I've just got mine back from microsoft although i did not have the rrod.
According to those who repaired my console the problem turned out to be the Motherboard and Dvd drive[is there anyhting left inside the machine]which cost me 60 quid as it was out of warrentee[typical]by 2 months, the problem i had was getting UPS to pick it up as they arn't in my area during the morning[WTF] so i had to make other arrangements to get it picked up at my parents house a right pain in the arse.
On the up side i left gears of war inside the console and got it back, a new face plate and one months voucher for Xbox live which from what i can gather in the normal proceedure where the voucher is concerned. The console does seem quieter so hopefully all is fixed it all took just under 2 weeks door to door and now i've other years warrentee so if it does go wrong again at least it'll be free this timesmile
