Hello all,

I am new to the Lotus world having just bought my S1 111S. Liking this forum very much, loving the car!

Reading through the forums it feels like a fair few good people in this crowd so just wanted to say hello and get your views on...

Vinyl Stripes (thinking of gold on my racing green), Hurricane Inductions and cat bypass pipe / 4 branch manifolds.

Have always wanted twin racing stripes down my car and love how they look on the Elise - (esp PIOOLYs!), am currently in negotiations with Fantastic Signs / Stripes in Poole.

Looking for more power and solid noise from exhaust. What could I do?

Anyone know some good contacts / club in Salisbury area? (i know of Sportomotive)

Thanks

Fordos

Hi Bob, welcome thumbup

Lovely looking car you have there!

Vinyl stripes (especially gold or yellow perhaps) on a green S1 can look really good I think; it's all a matter of opinion though I'm sure but I reckon you should go for it biggrin

Larini and 2Bular are well thought of in the exhaust world and, specific to S1 111S' I'm sure there will be others along soon to give more detailed models etc.

Take a look at Elise-Parts.com for some available exhausts and manifolds also.

Enjoy PH
Tony

Thanks Tony, good to have some encouragement on the Stripes as I was wondering what the general feeling about stripes was!

My (S2) Elise is BRG with yellow stripes. Search google images for "type-25 elise" and there will be loads of pictures.

Hi Bob, wavey

Here's my thoughts for what it's worth:

Stripes - each to their own but the type 25 style yellow stripes on green look quite good, although i'm not sure whi could fit these for you.

Hurricane kit - I have one on my 111s and love it to bits, great sound from 4000rpm onwards, but can scare animals and small children smile

Exhaust - I have the Larini sport back box on my and again I love the sound and it passes track db meters

De Cat - Don't bother on the 111s as this messes with the back pressure an you can lose power rather than gain. If you really want to go down this route then I suggest a sports CAT rather than De-CAT.

Contacts - Apart Sportomotive, you could also try Geoff at EspritEngineering in Downtown, nice guy, cheap rates but does get busy. Also the main dealer, Williams, in bristol have just cut their labour rates to £50/hr responding to customer feedback which is nice.

Good luck with the new car, be good to see another one around the area.

This is an oft-quoted statement, I beleive based on some research done on MGF's which has since been heavily questioned. FWIW, I took the Cat off mine and noticed no difference whatsoever other than generally smoother running, better fuel consumption and some nice pops on the overun. I'd say go for it as long as you're are aware of the legalities.

Welcome to the fold, you'll find upgrading becomes a bit of an addiction.

+1 for the hurricane suggestions. I fitted the carbon fibre version to my old S2 (standard) and it made a great sound. A nice growl from around 4000 revs without being too intrusive.

Currently running a larini on my exige and that also makes a fantastic noise (especially on 2nd cam).

Welcome Bob.
You already know about Sportomotive, which you will hear many recommendations for. As for clubs there is an active Lotus group in the area, who often meet in Bournemouth, keep an eye open for BoLOCs postings. Club Lotus has a good following locally, meetings first Sunday of the month, often held at St Leonards Hotel. WWW.clublotus.co.uk

Enjoy the car and I hope to see you on a run in the future.
Phil.

I Strongly advise checkign the SELOC TechWiki for a lot of answers to your questions. It's an exciting world and you want to improve your car but you want to do it right.... right ?

http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Category:S1

Additionally it's worth joining SELOC (there is a free option) because not only are there often bulk buys going on (for exhausts etc) but there are many more modders over there which are more likely to have tried every permutation of upgrade.

For technical advice (often beyond just Lotus) it is a very useful resource.
