would anybody have any idea how many sp6 engines have been built from when they were introduced (i think 1999)and how many have had to go back to base for a rebuild. Is there such a thing as a data base to find this information from tvr ?.......

Goto the Tuscan SP6 forum and you will gain an idea of the problem.

Speed Six is an acronym for ‘Rebuild’

Thats only one side of the coin. People only seem to advertise bad news. I was looking for a balanced idea.

Obviously not in this forum

I read on a thread recently that something like 40% of S6 engines had been rebuilt, mainly due to the finger failures, sorry followers. Mines had 2 rebuilds in 18k miles.

You must look at the ages of the engines the engines from late 01/02 are now reliable the ones before were where the problems came from caused in the main by the faulty finger follower componets. There have also been some design improvements from then.

I personnaly don't know have any problem with the newer sp6 engines. I currently drive the 3.6 (7000miles) and previously did (18,000) in a 4.0l whihc did have rebuilds for the finger follower problems.

personnaly I prefer the torque curve of the 4.0l but the 3.6l is definately a better day to day proposition.

Most of that 40% are from people who owned the earliest cars. Out of a total of 104 repsonses (to the question asking yes / no to engine work), only 2 responses showed that engine work had been required on a Tuscan S. This gives an indication of the problem being fixed as the Tuscan S was introduced later on (the poll had no way of distinguishing between earlier and later standard 4.0 cars).

Sixspeed may have a different take on that.
