Guys and Gals,

I am think of spending some serious dosh on my beloved (the wife has already had her alloted spend this year)

Work in progress is upgrade brakes and fit Nitron shocks (I know, I know about Gaz) next is a new set of wheels, that hopefully will leave me enough for a supercharger to be fitted, any thoughts, recomendations? I know i may need some work to the engine!

Car is 98 450 Chim with 42,000 on clock, 20,000 of that in the last 18 months, but stopped using it as my everyday car.

Sorry if this has been asked before.

The going rate seems to be about £4K depending on what needs to be done. I think that's what Power charge - not sure abou the rest. Just phone around the usual suspects...

Must admit i thought it was only sc doing the kits, or tvr power which is the sc kit i believe.

Sorry - didn't mean to be flipant. I was thinking of TVR Power and SC Power but I'd also call the usual 'engine places' such as V8 Developments, etc. Not sure whether anyone else is doing this but know the cost from Power is around the £4K mark so would use that as a guide.

hi,the supercharger kit that tvr power fit is the sc power kit,i had a kit fitted last year but i understand it was their intention to supply the kit so you could install it yourself/or a local dealer/specialist.
i must say i am very impressed with the kit the installation looks great and the car goes really well, mid range acceleration is great and apparently much quicker than standard 5ltr cars.as far as tvr power goes dom and jason really know their stuff and detail is brilliant and i would not go anywhere else.

if your thinking of spending big money why not inport a ls1 engine from the usa (corvette engine)you will get over 35 mpg at a steady 70mph and 400 bhp .if my engine was shot it thats what i would go for

Trouble is while an LS1 conversion is a lovely thing its about 12K to do....

Where SC'ing is 4K for comparable power output.....
With dealer support to boot

Exactly! The LSx conversion would be at LEAST £12k, in all truthfulness probably £10k+ more than the supercharger conversion.

I have a '98 450, with Nitrons. biggrin
Am just having the brakes upgraded - and having the SC Power supercharger fitted by Racing Green. I was due to collect it yesterday, but they are still dealing with the mapping, so i expect to be collecting it this week.

If you visit the SC Power website you will learn a little more:
http://www.sc-power.co.uk/SC%20Power%20Supercharge...

They used to have the prices up there, but these seem to have disappeared.

PM me if you want to have a chat

Custom exhausts are very expensive.. Never minding the mounting, bellhousing, box...... Just buy a Cerb, thats got even more power and you can get a new car for free with the engine hehe

The LS range of engines are expensive due to the fact that you have to have a new gearbox, all the ECU wiring, complete new exhaust and associated stuff.

Using figures from Bristish American Engines I came to 10.5K inc VAT without exhaust etc.

They are now doing a carburettor version - http://www.britishamericanengines.co.uk/ls_engines...

....Forgot to mention that Dom thought it would cost £6600 for them to do the complete job on my 400 Chimp. Role in normally aspirated and roll out blown.

I think it will depend on a few factors, like a new 4.6 clutch etc, on what the actual price would be.

Best speak to the man himself!

I was once told by a VERY WELL KNOWN PH LS enthusiast that you could do the LS Conversion over the weekend for less than the Supercharger installation in terms of total cost! You would of course have to be au-fait with swapping engines about and do it all yourself but he said it was very do-able.

I didn't believe it but I'm no mechanic...

well as a rough summary

crate LS1 (std 5.7 about 350Bhp) 4K or get a 2nd hand 'cutout' from a camaro inc loom ECU and T56 box for about the same
for the box either upgrade the T5 and fit a custom bellhousing about 1.2K
Or get a TKO with custom prop and bellhousing to suit about 1K
Or try and squeeze in the T56 ..... not sure it can be done still needs a prop 0.1K
Aftermarket ECU to control it all inc wiring loom components 1K - alternatively re-use the chevy loom and ECU
Custom exhaust manifolds required about 1.2K
Custom engine / box mounts 0.15K
Sundries -pipework, electrical s, throttle cable etc - 0.3K
New clutch / flywheel if crate comes without 0.5K

All in £8350 to £5750 in bits depending on how much you fancy 2nd hand bits.

Then your time on top

Matt
