Valuation Please

Details:

4.5 litre in sunset pearlescent yellow. AC, full TVR history, 1 owner from new, Sept 2000 registration (ie new style lights), TVR sports exhaust, approx 5,000 miles, uprated Pioneer MD, 6CD changer, uprated speakers all round, prussian blue interior with yellow stitching, matching yellow dials, gold TVR badges, Tuscan 18" alloys. Tracking system. Always garaged overnight.

Around 33K privately If you want to sell it. But a dealer would offer you about 28k and then put it on his forecourt for 37k. IMO, obviously.

i agree with Flasher, to sell quickly it will need to be 30K, to sell in spring 32K - perhaps worth getting a dealer to sell on your behalf?

From experience Cerbys need to be a good 20% cheaper than a dealer to sell privately to cover risks.

Looks like prices have fallen considerably? Before I bought mine (from new), fairly low mileage (under 5,000) 4.5 litre demos with extras such as leather interior were being advertised by dealers at £47-£49k.

Dealers have at least a 20% mark up and i know of several that go for 8-10K where they can get away with it. Quite a few 4.5LW's are being sold for 35-39K at dealers.

When you think a new 4.5 is £43K with a bit of negotiation, add air con at 2K and you have a new one with a warranty for £45.

If you think about it yours will need to be a sharp price to catch a potential buyer as from a dealer you get a warranty and less risk!

Also whilst I think Yellow is about the best Cerby colour there are lots of dealers out there, whom only want to buy the most popular colours such as met blue or green.

Shame you weren't selling in August/Sept 01 - I was looking for a yellow 4.5 so would have had it no probs! Do you know anyone that wants a AML highland purple one for similar money and I'll have yours?!?!?!?

For that sort of price/car. 'most' potential owners would prefer to buy from a dealer.

Have you tried a sale or return agreement with a dealer. I got a much better price/and no hassle buy this route than trading in directly, when I sold my old griffith.

You benefit (get the price somwhere between a realistic tradein value vs a relaistic forecourt price) no hassle selling, dealing with tyre kickers/wanabees.

The dealer benefits ( adds a car to stock, to draw public in, but no capital outlay until they have a commited buyer)30-40k is a lot to tie up in a specialist market midwinter.

I went with Hawthorns and had no problems ( obviously it does mean you don't have the car until it is sold)

This was a while ago, but I would assume they still do this. Jonathan (one of the directors is a pretty sound sales guy.

I did the same when I had to sell my speed six cerbera. Henley Heritge had it sold in a week, maybe lucky, but I was realistic on selling price and it was a popular colour combo ( Wild Oyster with Fawn Interior). Painless process.

Thanks again for the comments, everybody. I am not desperate to sell at the mo but will bear all comments in mind. The sale or return one does sound good if one can part with it until it's sold.

Caution on the sale or return route - sounds great in theory, but Fernhurst had my Cerbie S6 for about 4 months over Summer without selling it (sensibly priced too). At the end of the Summer I got concerned and posted a Pistonheads ad. I had loads of interest and sold within 2 weeks.
