Yep, once warm they are really rather good in the wet so long as they're not low on tread.
When cold, even on the road they can be a handful if you need to brake suddenly.
thanks for the replies so far, I must admit I've had a couple of hairy moments on the road, was just wondering if it was any different on the trackWhen cold, even on the road they can be a handful if you need to brake suddenly.
Take it easy and build up your speed like any other day and you will be fine for every damaged Elise on 48's I'm sure there are hundreds that have survived.
If the rain is particulary heavy and you get standing water I would suggest sitting it out tbh, bare in mind on road tyres the Elise can aqua plain in standing water its just with 48's the risk is higher.

I have R888's on my Exige; they're not bad in the wet actually.
Many other R888 tyred drivers (not just lotuses) have said to me that on standing water they're dodgy; by the very nature they just simply can't clear enough water, however, in just damp/wet condition I didn't find them any worse than regular tyres. I must admit I am still getting used to them 3 months into ownership though and am more scared than confident at the moment (the better way to be IMO
)
They certainly aren't like driving on ice though, that's for sure.

Love the colour of your exige by the way!
Yup, it wasn't my first choice, but it's really growing on me. I was like a child on Christmas Eve last night, I didn't get an hours sleep - so glad I went for the Exige in the end. But I tell you, when you get something like that, you wonder quite where our road tax goes - the roads are complete s
te!
I'd suggest getting some tuition as early in the day as possible, regardless of the weather. As others have suggested, take it very easy to start with and build your speed slowly. Don't worry about how fast anybody else is going - pull over on the straights and let them past, its not a race.
I did my first day in November and must have spun half a dozen times! On my second day it was raining all day and there was a lot of standing water on the track. After a few spins in the morning I managed to stay on track in the afternoon. On my third day I was starting to get on the pace, certainly starting to overtake quiet a lot of cars, and I didn't spin once. I enjoyed myself on all three days which is what I went for. Are you going with LoT? Worth joining them, great days and great people.
Don't forget to take some oil, you need to check the level between sessions. Keep an eye on your coolant too. I take a small bag of tools with me, you never know.
Some fluids for the driver are a good idea. I always keep a bottle of water in the tool bag. And I always take an extra packet of fags!!
