OMG! yikes

I was in the chippy at lunchtime, and as I was in the queue, I noticed some large, deep fried objects in batter, under the lights to keep warm.

It dawned on me what they were...

...deep fried Pukka pies!!!

No, I didn't.

Saw in the paper last week that deep-fried Cadbury's Creme Eggs were doing a roaring trade somewhere or other.

Jebus!

Deep fried pies!! Genius 6,000,000 calories in one easy meal. And we wonder why we're all becoming obese...

A chip shop next to me used to do (as well as the deep fried pies & burgers etc) deep fried pizza's and the "BDFM" (Battered Deep Fried Mars)

Sadly it is no more and is a kebab shop instead

There's one shop up in Edinburgh that'll deep fry anything you want for you on the spot. Deep fried Mars bars are quite common yuck

deep fried anything but fish and chips/sausages taste wrong in my opinion. But for half the calories and much more joy just slice up a mars bar, and make a mars bar toasted sandwich. trust me.

As another Northerner who once told a Scottish chip shop where to shove their pie after they put it in the frier i can assure you it certainly is surprising.

With the risk of being flamed, was this not a 90's phenomenon? I remember my local chippy going dolally and deep frying everything from Mars Bars to Fish. I think he stopped a few years after in the 00's due to the increased awareness of the fried stuff.

Amateurs.

The Stonner.

A jumbo sausage, wrapped in a Donner kebab, battered and deep fried.

A 1000 kcal mid afternoon snack.

laugh

The burger van on the Woodstock Road in Oxford did a special burger which was a burger and a 'bit of everything else on the van'

Which was bad enough.
