Spax RSX Aduustable Shocks..
Discussion
I knew when I bought the car that it had had the front shocks replaced, however until I was under the car doing the annual Hammerite and Waxoyl thing I hadn't realised that they were Spax RSX shocks..
Now these are Height and Damping Adjustable, so this opens up a whole world of fiddling about to me whereby I can either improve the handling of the car to my liking, or C*ck it up completely as I don't really know what I'm doing..
Any advice from you "7 clicks clockwise" brigade ??
Cheers,
Matt.

Ooops - know what you mean. Still, not sure as to the what you need to do for the adjustable shocks though. You might want to double check that you have the tool to do the changes to the rating first.... some shocks (like mine) require a specific tool to do this.
And secondly, it might be better to whip the car along to somewhere that has the correct weight and balance kit. They can identify what is not right and balance it out and then make some recommendations on what ride height and rating you should have anyway - they will know what to do to make it what you want.... a local place to me only charges £60+VAT per hour for this and the work only takes an hour or two....

I dunno, day in day out I try and post helpful things on here for TVR owners.. spreading a bit of the little knowledge I have around for the greater good.. and what do I get in return..? No replies. ![]()

And I can't help either
Although you should be able to work out the current settings, so you can return to them if it does go tits up

Thanks mate... I'd suspected it for some time..
Matt.
I got a Spax kit from Castle Sport. There are 28 clicks on the shock, I was advised to start off at about 15 front, 12 rear on the road and put it up a couple at a time on the track to see what happens.
Apparently the clicks are not linear in terms of damping. I haven't played enough to find out, but more than 18 on the road and you'll be at the dentist rather more often.

Have replaced the front shocks with spax rsx myself only a few weeks ago ( mot failure, couldn't afford to wait for a set of nitrons, next day delivery from spax)
28 clicks clockwise for full stiffness, have mine at 15 for the road, anything over 20 seems rock solid,
With the first 3 or 4 clicks it is hard to detect the 'clicks' unless you pull the adjuster out whilst turning.
Try driving it with min damping and you realise how important it is ! it's like driving with 2 flat tyres!
The spring & damper combination does not appear to have as much stroke as the std. ones so don't set it to low or you will run into the bump stops.I can't remember the exact dimensions without looking at the car but mine has about 4 full threads showing below the adjustment collars.
Adjustment is easy as long as you jack the car up to release some of the tension on the spring and buy a c-spanner (larger of the two available sizes)
Impressed with the shocks over standard ones (although one of them was leaking, hence the mot failure) considering they cost less than £ 100 per corner.
Hope this is of some help, i can send/fax (no scanner yet !) over the instructions that came with the shocks if you e-mail me your number etc.
