Thermostat Problem HELP
Discussion
From a cold start my Elise 135R (2003) has just started displaying 126o on the temperature gauge, the fan is not on and i obviously dont believe the reading. Am I right in assuming either a dodgy temperature gauge or display. Anyone had anything similar and what your suggestions. Thanks in advance.
First thing to check would be the wiring to the temp sender. On the S1 the one for the guage is just above the exhaust on the passenger side of the car. Not sure if S2 is the same. If you can find it, take the connector of and give it a good clean and spray with WD40. Hopefully that'll cure it. If not the next thing to do is probably replace the sender, its a pretty easy (if fiddly) job. Just unbolt old sender and screw in new one.
The only thing I would say, is that I know some S2's only use one sender rather than a seperate one for the guage and ECU. If that's the case on your car, and the engine is running ok (sounds like it probably is if the fan isn't coming on) then the problem must be at the guage end.
