Decided to do a oil change today as it was carried out last april by a indie @4k ago.
Got the filter and 8 litres of magnatec 15/40 got home and it started to rain so i will do it tommorow.
Looked at the castrol website and they recommend edge racing 10/60 double the cost of magnatec.
Am i starting to lose the plot and get nerdy as to start researching as to what oil to put into a car that get used in good weather and for about 5k miles a year.
Well it won't seize for a plus but what are the downers or are there any?? As you could hardly call magnatec cheap oil.
As there adverts say oil that clings to the engine.
Can't help thinking if it was'nt a TVR and it was a "other" car with the same engine would i worry and just replace the oil with a cheap 20/50.

Worse still if you go to castol US website it recommends changing the oil at least once every 6 months irrespective of miles covered. Alternative view, use valvoline racing 20:50 and change it twice as often?

If you were a Landie owner you probably wouldn't clean it or change the oil!

As long as the engine doesn't overheat I can't see how normal road driving in a TVR can put that much extra stress on the engine than in a range rover? Lets face it they are not highly tuned.

I personally use a branded 20/50 non-synthetic and change it twice a year.

Don't forget to fill the new filter with oil before fitting.

Thanks for the tip BD
I did try that today and the oil just sat on the filter would not dissappear down the hole gave it 15 mins still no joy.
Gave up and fitted the filter.
Took the sump off and cleaned the old gasket off which was cork and not rubber as i first thought and whilst cleaning the crud off the bottom there was a small bolt lying there.
Worried me a bit it was missing off the pick up pipe other was tight now refitted wonder how long that's been like that could have been costly rebuild.
Road test in a hour hopefuuly no leaks around the sump used instant gasket in the end.

Bloody hell how lucky was that, well done that may have just saved your motoreekdont underestimate how much grief you may have saved,if that pick up pipe came off while you was giving it the berries you would have run your bearings or worse in a short time, even if it came loose only aerated oil is bad news toofrown

Road Tested OK
40 PSI running 30 PSI tickover.
Slightly more than before.
Yes That Daddy the more you think about that pick up pipe held on with 1 bolt the more it worries me.
Ive had the car 2 years and as far as the service history goes no mention of sump gasket being replaced at all and the cars 12 years old.
There was silicone at the bottom of the bolts and a cork gasket so it must have been replaced at least once.
But how long has it been like thatscratchchin
