E92 M3 - Colour
Discussion
I have a E92 M3 (with M-DCT) on order but can't decide colour. I have about 2 weeks to finally decide, my shortlist is as follows:-
Jerez Black - Doesn't show the carbon roof up well, bit it is a "safe"colour
Silverstone - Not sure I like the blue hue in it...
Alpine White - Think the car looks great in it, but is it a bit too ballsy, a bit too look at me?
I appreciate colour is a personal choice but your comments would be apprciated....
Thanks

Alpine white does look really good, however there do seem to be a fair number about. Personally, I would go for black. Will always look good and the "white look" may become unfashionable again by the time you come to sell.
I suppose the thing is, it's your car and if you are ordering new then you should have the car exactly how YOU want it and forget about anything else. If I was in a position to order a new M3, this is what I would do anyway.

I hear that the pain finish quality of this model leaves a lot to be desired. Black is apparently worst and gives an 'orange peel' effect that is very noticeable.
White is the new 'in' colour and they do look great. The poor paint quality is apparently not quite as noticable. Silverstone is ok IMHO but lacks an edge for some reason, again IMO.
Tough call but I would say white. I dont think they are 'look at me' but actually quite classy.

I saw a white one in my work carpark the other day and IMO it looked awesome!! Showed the contrast to the carbon fibre roof really nicely compared to the grey one I saw in a carpark today where I had to look twice before I noticed the roof.
If it was down to me, it would be white every time! Good luck making the decision - a nice decision to have to make

I must admit white does show off the roof well and looks good in the flesh. However, my personal concern was resale value as it may be considered a "trend" colour. I ended up with Jerez black which I quite like but prefer the previous carbon black of my CSL. The Jerez has a hint of dark blue in certain light but at least my car doesn't have orange peel paint problems.
Whatever colour you go for make sure YOU like it and make sure you spec EDC on the options list, it's well worth it. It's a great car, all the toys and comfort you need combined with a car that goes mental the further up the rev range you get (once you're past the run in period of course).
Congrats in advance for your new toy!

Yes EDC was a must for me, after having PASM in my Cayman S.Whatever colour you go for make sure YOU like it and make sure you spec EDC on the options list, it's well worth it. Go for a light colour. Jerez black looks superb from a distance but it is the worst colour for orange peel - I should know! Melbourne Red is not a contender. White looks sexy in all the promo shots and is the new black but it may date - I was tempted but bottled it. I'd go for silverstone 2, given a second chance. What interior do you fancy, this may have an impact on your choice? I fancied fox red but, yet again, bottled it. After going for black with aluminium, I am very pleased!
If you have not already ordered it, make sure you opt for the USB port. A 4gb USB stick holds about 20 albums and works just like an iPod. CD changers are dead!
Gameoverman! - I'd be really interested to see some close up pictures of yours. I've seen several black E92 M3's and they all suffer orange peel. It appears to be a result of the powder coat application of the clear coat; the heat process melts the powder but it doesn't flow evenly to create a totally flat surface. From waht I understand, panels are electrically charged to attract the powder - maybe the mix between plastic and metal panels has an influence on the end result??

Interior is extended black with carbon leather trim, I do like the silvertstone 2 just worried about the blue look, especially in poor light.
Yes I have gone with USB, did you go for the Hifi speaker option, DSP or Individual?

Bog standard speakers, which are acceptable to me but, having not listened through the hi end system, I can't say whether or not I should have upgraded.Interior is extended black with carbon leather trim, I do like the silvertstone 2 just worried about the blue look, especially in poor light.

For a black interior I think the aluminium breaks it up nicely. Are you sure the carbon leather won't make it too drab? Each to their own tastes, of course.
One thing for certain... you'll enjoy!

Hi Diffstar, sorry for not responding had to do this thing called 'work' for a bit.... however this has now passed.
Everyone says the cars black and to be honest, it was only in the dealership at certain angles and very close up that it looked slightly dark blue. Chances are it was more the metallic flecks in the paint than anything else. I would definitely choose Jerez Black again, white is great but not so sure long term for me. (IMHO)
On the HiFi question I'd try to go for the DSP depending on your budget. I traded my Range Rover in for the M3 and it had DSP. Let me tell you there is one hell of a difference in quality and I'm tone deaf! However if you're not used to DSP or not into HiFis then it may be overkill. My M3 doesn't have it and the upgraded system is OK but not great.
Personally I tried to get a car which ticked the right boxes for resale and met my needs but didn't lose too much hence I didn't go overboard on options. I must admit the more I drive it the more I like it and the fuel economy is great compared to my previous RR 4.4 v8 petrol! I think the pain point will be tyres though.
On the 'orange peel' paintwork I'll have another look when I've washed it. I did have a good look round the car when I picked it up as I wanted to see if it had any problems Chris Harris's car had from AutoCar on his. I am picky so I'm sure I'd have noticed.
