E36 number plate light and rear light

Guys,

Just tried to replace one of the number plate lights - i was prizing out a bulb was a screw driver, i had the lights on (don't ask why),

now both number plates lights and the rear right side light are not working!! could by prizing out the bulb with the lights on with a metal object broke/corrupted the circuit??

any ideas???
