cerb is going in for some work next week. It's having the diff bushes done and a decat with straight throughs in place of the cats. the car is also having it's 30,000 m. service which will be an additional £800. Does anyone know what that service entails other than an oil change? Would love to know the service schedule on that sevice. just wondered if i'me being shafted £800 for an oil change and a quick butchers over the car.

£800 isn't really over the top for 12k service IF it includes the tappets, so make sure it does. Where are you taking it?

I'd heard the tappets are hugely expensive to adjust, is that just an old wives tale?

It's an involved job setting the tappets.

Involves cams out, and removal of all of the 'stuff' above the rocker covers.

That would account for the high costs, cheers Tim.

That's if they need adjusting, if they don't it's just a quick prod with a feeler gauge or 2 and plonk the cam covers back on. Some they'll make money on, others they'll loose out. Works both ways.

As for the service costs a 12k service is more involed than your average Focus main service ad one of those would set you back £300 odd.

£800 isn't bad at all as long as that includes VAT.

30k service shouldn't be a 12k service (as Joolz said).....

Although, if its the case that the mileage just happens to be 30k, rather than a 30k service, then it could well be that the last service was a 6k (small) service, so it now needs a 12k (big/tappet) service.... Confused ? So am I !!! confused

wink

Check with the garage if they are going to check/adjust the tappets for that price.

This may help people with services :

Just had mine done at Track V Road 6k service and tappets (cos they wernt done last time and they should have been, last service carried out by someone else) air con pipe broke and a air con re gas, set me back £850. Seemed a lot at the time BUT you only get what you pay for and the cerbs never run or handled so well so i felt like i got a good deal, and it got a completly clean bill of health only recomendation was the front ride height was slightly low, but they didnt change it cos some customers like that set up which was fair enough.

your right, it is a 6k service, not a 12k. It went to Austec last time, but Dream machines were cheaper this time. They gave me a better price on the doing the diff. bushes. Thanks for the info guys.

Well I don't think I've ever had a bill that's been less than £800. There's always other bits and bobs that need doing at the same time as the service.
