Tuesday meets, wheel fallen off?
Discussion
Can't make this Tuesday either.
I think we need to move back to somewhere with a car park, but there is still only an hour of daylight so a nice pub as well would be nice.
There are a couple of pubs down the road to the left just after the Peacock, if you are heading towards the Amber. The Plough is one, I think. Don't know if they would be any good. Could go and have a look.

Sounds good - I think the carpark is an important issue as (hopefully) the better weather comes along I think we need to move back to somewhere with a car park, but there is still only an hour of daylight so a nice pub as well would be nice.

I think winter is a difficult time.
lots of things get in the way, ususally for me its badminton but with crocked knee not been as much of an issue lately.
dark cold nights dont make it feel like you want to go out again when you get home if you think you are just sat in the pub rather than looking at cars (thats why i like matlock so i can at least go and play in the amusements!!!!!!!!!)
I think we should go and look at the pubs madbadger has seen, ideally we need large car park like Amber that opens from 7pm (not necessarly when landlord feels like turning up) with a country feel atmosphere.

The venue?
We've been to The Midland at Matlock Bath all winter, it's OK, but i'm not overly keen on it, probably because we've been there for months and months on end now.
The White Lion at Starkholmes, the original venue, and still the best IMO, very cosy, chippy down the road.
The Amber at Furnace, Oakerthorpe. Great in summer due to the car park, not liked much by many though, who don't come so often as they would.
The Anchor at Oakerthorpe, we've fallen out with them after Beemer5 and Polarbert had a run in with the landlady, so we barred it.
The Peacock at Oakerthorpe, is just a generic family food pub.
So...
The Dead Poets is just great, but it's not for a car meet though, as it has a tiny car park and on street parking is limited, but it would be good for a small cosy turnout, and Prof, you would love it. It's very medieval, flagstone floors, rough hewn furniture, roaring fires, straw on the floor, chickens, pigs and goats running around, real beer served in leather jugs, the beer is thick, warm, malty and non-gaseous, just as it should be. (I may be exaggerating, but you get the drift)
Shall we try the White Hart at South Wingfield?

Excellent - assuming some modest level of clemency - can I assume we are on for this Tuesday?http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&ge...
