Ok, so I bought back my 400SE (which I'd originally purchased from Brummiewedge a couple of years ago), and today had a good shakedown run over to Harewood Hillclimb.

The car runs nicely, but suddenly the dreaded CLUTCH SLIP yikes
Mainly when in high torque situation, as you'd expect.

Now the car has only done 5,000 miles or so of pretty gentle driving since Brummie put a new clutch in during the engine rebuild. scratchchin

The master cylinder looks brand new,and is topped up with fluid. Also, no (obvious) fluid leaks either inside the car, or around the engine/gearbox.

I'm rather surprised to have this kind of problem, and I'd appreciate some advice before I start saving up. cry

Did they just do the clutch plate, or the cover as well? What clutch plate did they put in?

I still have a clutch slippage problem, I've taken to chocking the clutch down when I park the car (wooden plank between pedal and seat) which does seem to help a little, especially after a few days.

Thanks Adam.

Surprise surprise,I've spent the last hour doing searches on the subject,
and did come across the 'car hardly used' syndrome, whereby the springs weaken through lack of clutch use.

Apparently the guy I sold her to, virtually just put her in the garage and pushed her in and out for the locals to eyeball now and again.rolleyes

Poor car...only needed to be driven !

Not sure what to do really. Some posters have mentioned that their slippage went away....I should be so lucky.

I'll definately do what you've suggested though.

- No idea what clutch parts were fitted by Brummie, but I get the impression that he is pretty thorough.
