After a few weeks of searching, I finally secured a privately advertised silver 2004 Monaro CV8 today. The car has covered just 13k miles (1 owner & always garaged) and it's in great condition. The seller was a complete gentleman too.

Before anyone mentions it, I know the VXR's are better but my budget couldn't stretch that far!

I can't wait to pick the car up on Saturday smile

True. Also, by using this car rather than my old Maserati QP V8, I'll be helping to curb global warming. My Maserati was rated at 447g/km for CO2 emission!

I'll get some photos of the car once we have some nice weather, barring any last minute problems with my purchase. There are no exterior modifications though (aside from Vauxhall->Holden badge replacement front and rear).

Agree with that. Have owned one of each, but both are as good as each other, albeit different.Would hate to think that we have any sort of hierarchy here. Enjoy it!

Welcome! No matter that it's not a VXR, yours still has a big V8 up front which is the whole reason for buying these cars

Just had a quick look at your PH profile Coder and my first thoughts are that it's a small world! I'm also a games coder that's recently(ish) decided to heat up the planet with a Monaro

Welcome!

I paid just under £13k for it. It seemed like a good price for the car, but it all checked out fine and it has the history you would expect (including annual servicing despite the low miles). It's advertised in SW Oxfordshire - probably still listed on Auto Trader.

Is it a VZ? They were built late 04 on. I just bought one, here in Oz we have to pay mid $40K for one with low Km like mine. (ie around £20K)
The "VXR" ie HSV coupe was out of the range I wanted to spend, only 1 VZ HSV coupe on carsales.com now, 10,000km, Automatic! rolleyes for $65,500 ie approx £30K...

Welcome...Forget about global warming...You could take all of our cars off the road & it wouldn't make any difference as China are building 2 power stations every week !

I picked up the car lastnight. I'm really impressed so far, I think the performance will be sufficient for me (at least for a while!). The closest thing I have for comparison is my old Maser QP V8, which could probably outrun the Monaro in a straight line, but is just completely outclassed in all other departments by the Holden.

One question that I'm sure someone will be able to answer.. the car had a mild steel "sports" exhaust fitted by LSV in late 2004 as part of a kit that included a Capa cold air intake. Two round pipes out of the back box. It sticks out at a funny angle and it's a bit louder than the standard one. Can anyone tell me who this exhaust is made by? It doesn't say on the receipt. I can provide a picture if necessary.

Also, if anyone can recommend a good stainless system for the CV8 (I don't mind a *bit* more noise, but nothing massively OTT), then I could be tempted to part with some more ££.
