Hi all

I wonder if there is someone who lives either in Kingston or nearby who can help me? I've just had an operation on my back and this means I can't get into the Chimaera, it seems I've had my last drive in it, as it's on the market now... a proper sob story eh!? cry

Anyway, as as result she's not moved for a couple of weeks, and now won't start (flat battery?) I can't get down to the battery to change this/charge this, and wondered if some kind soul was close by, if they could pop by to lend a hand? Tea/coffee etc will of course be provided..! Advice as always is welcome.

No worries if not, I'll work something out, just prefer it if someone who's got some experience with TVRs was poking it!

Oh, and if anyone is after a nice 99 Chimaera, I'm open to offers!!

I am local but have no experience of TVR's but it is a free bump.

Thanks - it's a pain I know, but it'll never sell if it won't start! And I just can't get into it at the moment... there's never a good time eh!?

Unless you have a way of keeping it charged up, it won't last long if you can't drive it regularly. Not sure what the demand for Chimaeras is at the moment (although summer is coming up). Good luck with the sale.

I can help you out, but unfortunately not this evening as a friend is popping round. If you can get power to the car and just want to charge the battery, provided the current from your charger is low, I would just use the cig lighter socket. Getting the battery in/out is a bit of a pain, but not impossible (have just done the same on a friends chim).

Hi Steve

That would be great - I'm about all the time at the moment so it's not urgent for tonight. This week would be good though? I can get power through to the car via an extension lead, the charger I've got I've never used so can't be sure if it works or not! If you're free later this week, drop me a line and I can make sure everything is ready to have a go!

Cheers

Hi, it may be easier for you to connect the charger to the terminals of the alternator and charge this way, you don't need to 'do the limbo' with the battery in the footwell then. just make sure you connect the right way around, and the clips are secure before turning on.

Tom,

What kind of charger do you have. I've a feeling the easiest way to do things might be to make up a swappable cigarette lighter connection for your charger.

It's an Optimate III which has a plastic plug which is atatched to the battery, I've been in touch with the previous owner and it 'should' just plug into this and Bob's your uncle. But it doesn't seem to...

It's got crocodile clips as well if this helps? Trouble is, I can't get down to the footwell to get to this. I'll email you my address so you've got this.

Thanks again Steve!

Are the crock clips attached to the lead from the optimate via a rectangular connector (the kind found on RC car batteries among other things)? This is what a cig lighter plug would attach to also (you should have been given it with the optimate).

I'll go and have a look - not sure about a cig lighter plug though, don't remember ever seeing that. If I've got one, then I'll be able to slap that in no problems, will check back shortly! Thanks!

I'm just across the river in Teddington (working from home, so not much pressure on my time). Looks like you and Steve will get things sorted, but I'd be happy to help out if need be.

Hi Alistair

If you're bored, feel free to pop over - I'm about all the time (unsurprisingly!) - and give the beast a poke. I've got to do some physio over lunch, but will be about all afternoon if you feel the need to get out of the house!

Will check the charger pack on the way out as well, perhaps I've missed something?

Massive thanks to Alistair - the problem is sorted now and the beast roars again! A nicer guy you couldn't wish to meet!

Thanks mods as well for your help, a big pain made small.

Now to sell her - big question now, will the sun stay out long enough!?!?

Thanks again!

My pleasure. Glad to have been able to help. Thanks for the tea and the entertaining conversation. Good luck with the car sale, it looked to be in excellent condition (fiver to the usual address). And speedy recovery too.
