Hi... unsure what section to post this in... just want a few general opinions!
Im shortly to buy a Fisher Fury with an aero screen. I plan to do a fair few track days etc.
In time i will get myself a nice motorsport helmet, but for the time being i will be a bit strapped for cash.
Basically i will need a couple of helmets for myself and passenger. For now i have been looking into bike helmets that have the gold motorsport sticker. You can get a half decent one for £80.
Will this type of helmet be allowed on the track?

In the future i will get a half decent helmet as i said... i know more expense = better quality = safer.

The ones with the gold sticker are fine - I checked with MSV and they said go for it. I managed to get a brand new helmet for about £40 - heavily discounted because it was the last of the line. They change the styles and colour schemes so often, you can find yourself a real bargain.

Motorcycle ones are alright and are usually festooned with vents, which is always a bonus.

thanks mate, thats a big help... i figure that surely if they are made for bikes, then they are more than adaquate for a car ( i know roll cage impact is major, but in comparison...)

Anyway, as you say, good baragins can be had, and provided it is ok for a track day, i cant go far wrong.

Cheers

just been in to the local motorbike shop to look at a few, seems like you can get a good helmet for not much cash. However, the gold sticker on the back says 'motorcycle' ..... will this pass scrutineering on a track day event?

Absolutely. Mine was never checked. If it's a helmet that looks in good condition I dont think they care. Frankly it's your head so you should care more then them. smile

I bought a brand new Bell M2 off ebay. There is a shop on there called KWFM. I bought mine for £60-70 (can't fully remember now) and it's brilliant. As long as it has the gold sticker, you're fine.

I would say though, that motorcycle helmets do tend to be bigger externally, don't know why.

For track days gold-sticker bike helmet is fine. For racing you need type A or FIA approved sticker.

I recently bought a full face MSA approved 'National standard' helmet (made by OMP) from these peeps

http://www.advanced-wear.co.uk/page12.html

£112 for the latest one, £96 for the older version (newer style has 2 airvents and a go faster sticker wink) or the open face for £67

HTH smile

All ready for the Brighton Speed Trials now driving

Good topic, although I thought car helmets are designed to absorb different style impacts (several close bangs against the vehicle rather than one larger one, say against a curb) to motorcycle ones. So with that in mind i've been browsing demon tweaks again - has anyone got any experience of Impact Racing helmets? Am looking at getting myself one of these...

Anything with a ACU gold stamp meets the REGS fine. Get any that fits the best.

cheers guys, has cleared up the matter a lot thanks

I guess the easiest solutuon is to speak to a scruiteneer before i buy...

If i do decide to compete properly then i will buy a decent 'motorsport' designed helmet. For the time being i think a couple of sub £100 motorbike helmets will suffice for myself and passanger for the road and track days.

thanks again

for sure, tried a very comfortable 'Nitro' helmet, nice fit, feels light, removeable washable lining. £79.99.. cant say fairer than that.

Mine's a Nitro. It's alright, really. I'm happy with it but then I haven't put it to use. Yet.

Ditto, I also bought a Nitro helmet for use for trackdays and although I haven't actually used it yet it fits comfortably and was cheap. (plus it had an awesome design on the side)

Oh I've used mine on trackdays but I've not totalled my car yet. But I will.

One other thing to remember is that if you have an open topped car, get full-face helmet. A lot of track day companies don't allow open with open!
