My 94 Chim charging LED light (the very bottom one) has started to glow faintly when the engine gets warm, whilst cold or warming up it does not glow.
It does not come on at all when the ignition is turned on, or the when the engine is switched off.

I have fitted a new battery(Optimate)and a new alternator, alternator is chucking out 13.9 volts at tickover (measured on the rear pole of the alternator to earth - cam cover)

I don't understand this at all, any ideas?

I had something similar. It was diagnosed to be corrosion on the contacts in the Main 100Amp fuse holder/little black box. When it was warm it caused enough resistance to prevent full charge getting to the battery. Replaced fuse and holder and all has been ok since. I know on 1st thought it doesnt seem like the most logical solution, but it worked for me.

His car prob doesn't have a 100A fuse wink

It is known trait, the alt sense wire is only at 12v, the ign is at @14v and this is enough to make the led glow faintly (only seen at night). If you switch the blower on full it will go out wink as this drops the ign to @12.5v..

The car in that post was modified, most 94's will be original, ie no pesky fuse wink You must take a lot of the information in these pages in context.. There were plenty of changes in production on a day-day basis never mind the important revisions... hehe

Right, bit of exploratory work then, don't think it has a fuse didn't see one when fitting the leven jump start kit, i'll have another look and check the connections on the starter perhaps, and turn the fan on! Going on first spring run tomorrow to new forest with some other lads. (tvr, porsche 911, cossie, P1, GTV)

mine is faint all the time and it flashes with the alarm system .im not to worried as i took the connection off the alternator and it becomes very bright so if it fails i will know when the alternator is not charging .
