As the title says.
Following some good (and many bad) reports in the "chaps how's business?" thread.
And considering all the "recession" talk in press.

Which industries do you think will thrive over the next few years?

How does engineering differ from technology?

Why will technology companies need toilette roll??? biglaugh

Surely recycling is going to keep growing?

What about power generation, those prices are going to keep going up?

Insolvency practitioners - all the liquidations and bankruptcies

Undertakers - all the suicides

Accountants - they do well no matter what's happening in the economy

Auctioneers - all the reposessed houses and flats

Pawnbrokers - people pawning their PS3 players for cash

The National Lottery

This is extremely anecdotal, but...

Yesterday I got the local free newspaper. Normally it has about one or two companies that have gone into liquidation.
This week's edition has SIX companies gone into liquidation.

The other industry that would seem to be on the up would be Bailiffs!!!

Oh and hookers. The influx of poles pushed prices right down, and quality right up, meaning alot of blokes who would never have been tempted before thought "well why not".

Now alot of the poles are heading back home, supply will be reduced.....but the new demand that has been created will remain. Especially as divorce numbers go up during a recession.

This should push up prices.

i'm going to guess at
- bread: more people take sandwiches to work rather than buy out
- lingerie: more people stay in rather than going out to pubs and restaurants wink

yes

People spend more on basics rather than luxury items - so yes, sarnies for lunch rather than buying food etc

And yes, people trying to cheer themselves up.

I'm hoping that somebodies earlier suggestion that energy will do well is right, as I'm moving into that area in a few weeks...and the bonus is linked to company performance wink
