Does anyone know how i should go about replacing the gaiter that goes around the gear and door knob and handbrake in a 93/94 Chimaera. We've just bought a new one but have no idea how to either get the old one off or put the new one on?!?!!

You'll need to remove the gear knob, there are a few thread on here if you use the search facility 'gear know removal' . . You can then push it under the centre console.

You can also remove the centre console, which is just a couplf screws to take the tension of the gaiter to help a little . .

I really effin hate this, I am sure I wrote the details very recently... but can I find it with a search, or even looking thru profile!!!!!

For the early cars (with door opener in gaitor)...

Get under the car and slacken right off the handbrake adjuster (o/s above diff behind rear wheel). If you cant do this forget trying anything else!
Pop up the base of the fag packet holder at the back of the centre console (allen key or something) and remove the screw.
Unscrew the gear knob (rubber gloves.. may be required to get a grip hehe)
Unscrew the lock nut under the door knob, and unscrew both items.
Pull off the handbrake grip, and raise the handbrake fully.

Reach under the console and disconnect the wiring to the window switches (if they aren't on connector blocks try and do it later so you can make a note of the connections).

Now you need to manipulate the CC out, by way of description it is hooked under the ridges in front by extended prongs on the sides of the console. You can trim down these 'prongs' to make insertion & removal easier in the future - but not too much wink

Lift the console at the rear (separate it from the saddle bit closest to the seat) and ease backward - the handbrake limits this movement which is why it needs fully slackening off. Once the prongs are disengaged, you just have to jiggle it out, I spin & turn mine so the console is nearly parallel with the dash.

The gaiter is fitted to a fibreglass ring which is bolted under the console, by this stage it should be pretty obvious to you.

I think thats about it off the top of my head, shout if I missed anything wink
