Hi, Well I've dug out some sample hazard tests and despite not looking at a copy of the highway code for at least 20 years I managed to get 49/50 and 50/50 ... and they have even reinvented trams !!!

now i spotted the theory is slightly different for bikes, mainly the lifesaver check and cross winds.. is there a specific copy of the highway code that covers the bike stuff??

also I've seen the hazard perception test and wifey is trg to be a driving instuctor, so we've got loads of samples of those, but is the hazard test the same of for the bikes as the car test ? I cant see any reason why it wouldnt be as a hazard is a hazard, but then again its government and that usually defies logic

cheers

yes you need to go in and ask for a left handed highway code

As far as I know Graham, it's the same. I know you have access to loads of samples, but I'd recommend a copy of "Driving test success - hazard perception" by Focus Multimedia. You can get it from Amazon for around £8 - reviews are all glowing and I've been using it myself, as I learnt to drive way before the theory test etc came in.

Government must be making a few quid by forcing people who drive and ride to take two theory/hazard perception tests....

I have my bike theory today at 3.15pm!
I've read through 'The Official DSA Theory Test for Morocyclists' book but I'm going into the hazard perception relatively blind.

This site has a practise clip and 3 free question papers though http://www.hazardperceptionchallenge.co.uk/

Might be a bit late now but there's plenty of clips on youtube that'll give you an idea of what to expect

IIRC I got about 60ish with those being the only practise

Thanks guys, I passed!
50/50 on the questions and 58/75 on Hazard perception. I think I was clicking too soon and then scoring my points with a second 'just in case' click. I also scored 0 on one video for clicking too many hazards!

Anyway a pass is a pass! Now for the hard part...

I've got mine in the morning. Been practising and I'm getting about 80% at the moment. with mostly 4/5's with one 0 because I saw the hazard way too early.

Ok another daft queation, when can you do the hazard and theory test?

Do I need to wait until I've done the CBT? or can I do it now? its not clear on the web site but it will accept me after checking my driving licence number..

I've booked the cbt for 10th may but I see they have theory test dates next week, and its something else to get out of the way before the DAS course and test..

cheers

G

p.s. how much is the theory test

Graham.
You can take your theory test before CBT and it will cost you £30. Good luck.

passed mine yesterday- though its worth noting that if you use one of the dsa approved video cd things to help you practice the hazard part, they rather usefully tolerate a higher frequency of clicks than the real deal.

which is a bit un-nerving when you get your score reduced to zero for the first three videos because of what the practice video they provide has taught you to do. most especially when one of them is the 10 pointer.

be warned. practice does not make perfect.

(got a perfect score other than that on both sections though smile )

Just a question about the real hazard perception test Nervous, as opposed to some of the training DVDs you can buy.

On the real test, do you get a row of flags along the bottom of the screen, with a flag being added each time you clicked?

Ta, Im tempted to just book one and go and see what happens... the theory seems mainly common sense with the odd road sign.

I've tried a cople of the dsa website theories and the only ones i got wrong out of a couple of tests were the first aid questions !!! still passed them all..

on the hazard tests i've tries seems to be mainly 4 & 5 with one zero !!! for clicking too much feck thats sensitive..

if i take that early then its out of the way... then I can take the pee out of the missus as she failed hers first time, although admittedly they have more questions and a higher pass mark for adi..

yes, but again be advised, that the total number of clicks allowed AND the frequency of clicks is much lower on the real deal. my estimation is that if you get halfway across the screen with flags, your probably going to get that stupid over-zealous 'you have behaved unacceptably' message. so keep 'em down.

that said, the real deal is also much slower than the vids, which is undoubtedly good and all the clips are contrived, so if you see somebody with the potential to do something stupid they almost certainly will do something stupid. you have bags more time than you do in the practice vids do so you can relax a bit more.

Though I must admit i panicked when i got zero, really didnt help at all.

my advice: get the video thingy, but learn to be frugal (its very hard as if your a good driver youll see many more hazards way faster than they deem them to be so and only have a half second window in which to score from 5-0) and practice the multiple choice bits here:

http://www.all4bikers.com/theory/results.php

http://www.theory-tests.co.uk/login/

http://www.theory-test.co.uk/asp/login_form.asp

good luck pal. FWIW your experience of the CBT was exactly the same as mine and reading your thoughts really helped me a lot, as Im sure it did many others here.

also be advised that there could be many, many, many questions on trams, bike maintenance (less obvious than you think too), environmental health, and other stuff frankly that you didnt know you needed to know. seriously, dont under-estimate the st they want you to know.

I bought the official dsa book and learnt that- theres really a huge amount I didnt know or didnt know Id be expected to know and have been driving for nearly 20 years. Itd be sods law to get one of the stupid counter intuitive, disconcertingly vague questions with very similar answers that all mean the same thing but only one of them is corect for no discernable reason.

get the book. It helped me. I had three stupid questions come up and I wouldnt have known them without the book or having just used the online tests.
