Have bled the lines, changed the fluid, and even put a new PS pump on (all the way from the US). But not getting any assistance!

The new pump is being spun by the round as it should be the belt so presumably pumpingfluid through all the hoses.

ANY IDEA's?

I had a similar issue with a replacement RV8 pump, and it was just an air lock. Found I needed to help the pump prime manually before letting it spin up on the engine, as it never cleared it properly. Always had the noise of low fluid and not enough assistance.

Thanks - will try that - getting mechanic to it tomorrow - father wasted so much time on it!

Can you tell me what you mean by "needed to help the pump prime manually before letting it spin up on the engine, as it never cleared it properly". No low oil noises (new pump blown lines etc) new fluid, just no assistance at all in the steering!

Jon, if you're pumping the fluid and there's no air locks, what does the fluid push against, is there any valving that could be stuck open?

Steve - dropped the engine and box in and fired it all up (topped up the ps fluid reservoir), drove round the block (4 miles), got a squell and some minor smoke from a split hose from the pump to the rack (racj working fine all the way round), replaced the split hose from Pirtek. In doing this the pump was taken off, when it went back on could not get the steering to have any assistance. May have jumped the gun, but ordered a new PS pump, fit that and the same. Flushed lines (well mat father think he has - but PS systems not really his area), hooked it all up and filled the system - same all runs as it should no leaks or weird noises just no assistance! But like I said Power steering working fine on the run round the block right until I drove it back into the garage.

S6boy (WAY too slow)wink

Getting our old mechanic / engine builder in first thing 2moro. Just a pain in the butt.
