Honda K20 type-r engine comperssion
Discussion
Hi, I am looking at super charging my civic type-r engine.

To run higher boost i need to lower the compression, does any one know which is the easiest way of doing so? Will a civic type-S head fit onto my engine and will it lower it enough?
Thanks.

Maybe these guys might know.....

But why not just fit some new pistons ?

have a look for TTS honda civic conversion. http://www.tts-performance.com/civicsupercharged.p...
it uses the Rotex supercharger wihich might be a bit more suited to the light weight RWD mini. also, depending on what unit to started with, it would be easier to upgrade in the future if you wanted more power.
also there is a UK company that will turbo the engine for you. they use a conventional positioned turbo (not like the FULL RACE kits that put the turbo over the gear box). here is a link to their turbo kit

the above company (CPL Racing) have done verisous mid engined cars including a turbo Atom making nearly 500bhp!!!
thanks Chris.
PS is that the Zcars kit?? what are you impresions of the kit??

Hi, thanks for that. I dont have a problem carrying out either a turbo or supercharger, as i live close to zcars and i can also use a spanner lol.
Its just that in zcars opinion the chargers are not as good? They have some bad experiences with the chargers going pop.
I think i will still go for a charger, I think it would be good.
What sort of boost/power do you think i could run before i need to run an intercooler/lower the compression?
It is a zcars mini, finish is very nice specially because I built it myself and took my time doing it.

There are a few ways of lowering the CR. One is new pistons or getting the old ones machined, which requires the removal and stripping of the engine and subsequent rebuild. A different head may do it, but I'd make very sure it'll all fit and work first as there's a lot of things that need to line up! The other, slightly older school version, is either 2 head gaskets, or a spacer plate of some variety. Depending upon how much power/psi you want, you may be able to run a near stock CR and run intercoolers and so on instead to compensate.
the atom runs these engine to around 300 BHP using the superhcarger you want to use. and from the other links i listed above thats probably all id want to push it on stock internals....
not sure is the is a drop in set of replacment pistons but it might be worth looking at. the US use these engines aswell so they may be a cheap option avaliable from over the pond.
i know Toda and Brian Crower do strokers for these engines. the Toda is a 2.2 i think and the Crower is a 2.4!!. another alternative is to run the K24 block and internals with the Vtech head. not sure if that would reduce comp ratio much though. might be a good idea to have a word with someone like TDI (they run a crazy 2.6 ltr honda civic with full race GT40R trubo that makes 800bhp on pump fuel!!).
might be worth investing in some water/alky injection to just to help reduce temps adn increase safety.
what supercharger is used in the kit???
Cheers
