Porsche Officially Challenges C-Charge

German carmaker applies for a judicial review against C-Charge hike

Porsche has officially applied for a judicial review challenging the Mayor’s £25 charge congestion charge by issuing its case in the High Court of Justice.

The German carmaker believes that the increase of the congestion charge from £8 a day, or £0.80 for residents, to £25 is both unfair and disproportionate and argues that the charge will increase congestion and damage air quality in London.

Commenting on the filing, Andy Goss, Managing Director of Porsche Cars GB, said: 'Not only is this new tax on motorists unfair, it is also a disproportionate and illegal use of power by the mayor.

'The Porsche case is about protecting London and Londoners from a new tax that will not only fail to reduce CO2 emissions in central London, but also increase congestion and damage air quality.'

Porsche filed its challenge in the High Court of Justice Queen’s Bench Division Administrative Court seeking to quash the mayor’s new charge on the grounds that it is both a disproportionate and illegal action by the Mayor.

Because of the short time frame in which the charge is due to be introduced Porsche has asked the court to expedite the judicial proceedings.

Very interesting, it would be good to see Ken kicked into touch over this one. I personally don't see the increase in the charge making much difference to the CO2 emissions, but it will obviously make a big difference to individuals ability to pay the increase, the majority of which are stretched to the financial limit already.

Hopefully Ken will move out soon to one of these eco towns, he might be happier there.

It is about time that someone challenged this congestion charge, british motorists pay the most in the world for personall transport, yet have roads of quality the same as third world countries.

About time somebody stood up to challenge this. For far too long us brits have suffered in silence( as is our typical way). Its about time we started (and i hate to say this!)behaving like the french and said 'Non!'

Odd that it's the Germans who are fighting this on the beaches. But good on them.

I don't see it as cheap advertising. A good proportion of their sales must be to Londoners, I expect they can see the resulting downturn should the charge come in.

Yes indeed. A Pistonheads drive-in (or march) would be rather good fun, and great publicity too.

And probably a good opportunity also to complain about the fact that the UK roads have more pot-holes than India.....

I never been able to understand how a Porsche creates more congestion than a Prius. It seem clear to me that this is not a "congestion charge" but a tax based on CO2 emissions. Does Red Ken have the power to introduce and raise taxes?

I am surprised that other car manufacturers haven't got behind Porsche on this one too. It's not as if they're the only ones who are going to be hit by this higher charge at the end of the day.

It is fantastic that Porsche are donig this. Quite good PR for them too (ironically!).

Others aren't doing it I guess because of the issues they have already with carbon emissions from anufacturing etc; I guess they just don't want to piss off the people that fine them!

Credit to Porsche for having the balls to challenge the powers that be that is Red Ken. Unlike the bleeding brown nosing by the likes of Honda putting out all those useless 'problem solving' ads with making hydrogen cars and emitting less CO2 bks.

I think Britain is trying to become the 'hero' of the planet in 'pioneering'...no enforcing all these Eco charges to show the world that they want to save the planet, whilst simultaneously taxing us to death.
