Hello

Anybody tried to fit a ford mt75 to a Essex V6? Is it possible?

Ithink its possible. when my 4 speed o/d when pop a couple of years ago I replaced it with a Borg Warner T5, but had the option of the ford "sierra" box which I declined in favour of the slightly more expensive BW, which I love.

I would imagine the MT75 being a little tight/close down the tunnel!
It's a pretty strong box though.
Type 9's are good for 140bhp so can bolt onto standard essex and should be OK, if you have a trick engine you'll need a heavy duty version. I've come across some lads that build type 9's good for 300bhp with there own bestpoke mods (Biuld for rally cars) and they only live a stones throw from me.
Just reconed my box actually.
Supes.

Thanks for the info so far. Think the easyest would be the T5.
But where can i get one from new or secondhand, seems to be very rare.

Hi Oli

Looks like there are a few T5's on ebay.ch currently but, like those that occasionally appear on ebay.co.uk, they are far from cheap and you never quite know what you are getting. I haven't looked inside my ex-Mustang T5 yet to see if it needs rebuilding after 100,000 miles of thrashing - rebuild kits are $300 in US and £300 in UK cry

cheers
Nick

Hi Nick
I saw those on ebay and i even know the person selling them. As you say, a lot of money and
you dont know what you are getting. I would prefer an old one and rebuild it myself. or a new one.
Hey, i like your status how many are about of those? Have you got more pics? I have a Unipower GT,
my next project...

Hi Oli

Status Minipower production (if you can call it that) was, I believe, 8 road going cars and around 20 competition chassis so they're not very common smile
The picture in my profile isn't my car but one of the 8 road going ones that I came across a few years ago but failed to buy for various reasons. I'm pretty certain that mine is one of the competition chassis as it has no bodywork at all. It is a (very) long term project!!

I think I have some pics of one that was in New Zealand and has since "moved" to Australia. It wasn't economical to buy and ship it back.
If I find them I'll post them as long as it's not going to get me in trouble (it's fibreglass but not TVR wink)

cheers
Nick

My dad had a 5spd made for his 3.0 V6 Cortina MkIII back in the early 80's. It was a Cortina Savage type specialist that did the work.
Perhaps you could speak to the Cortina groupies to see if/how it can be done.

answer to the first question:
The MT75 has an integrated bellhousing and will not fit the Essex engine.
The V6 version of MT75 fits the Cologne 2.8/2.9 but these engines have a different bolt pattern than the Essex.

I sell the conversion kit to suit the M series (ONLY) and the Type 9 gearbox (either the 2.8 with a upgraded 2.9 front bearing or the 2.9, BUT they need to be with a speedo drive) 191.00 with your exchange bell housing, which includes all the parts, along with a quick-shift that then ensures that no mods to the internal trim is required. It might need a speedo cable @ 13.72 as the type 9 attaches with a circlip and the type E attaches with a finger fork system and older cables will not fit under the circlip. I can supply the gearbox to suit this conversion as an outright purchase...POA.

Hi Adrian

What i actually need is the gearbox, T9 or better T5. They are very rare over here in switzerland. All the old fords are long gone!
By the way could you send me the brake parts i ordered from you?
Regards
Oli

Hi Oli,
The brake parts have gone....The correct T5 is difficult to source here. The Type 9 is easier to find, but again getting the right one with speedo drive and then converting it to the 2.9 front bearing (IMHO a must do) I can get them done but they get expensive when or if you want to put plus 180BHP. I have a conversion kit that allows fitting of the T5 to the M as well, again exchange, BUT I have yet to find the same T5 gearbox (some people turn up T55 and or T60 gearboxes and think they have a T5) and all then need bespoke parts making to get them to fit.
