been toying with the idea of twin or 4 pot calipers to go on the front of my griff, has anyone had experience or knowledge as to wether the ford cosworth 4 pots or the sierra twin pot caliprs fit onto the existing 283mm vented disc and hub?
it could be a cheap upgrade rather than buying a set of wilwoodswink

Hello Clive

For a very cost effective upgrade

I would fit 283mm vented discs from the 2wd sierra cosworth - take your pick of suppliers EBC, black diamond or even Ford
and a pair of Mk III Ford granada Cosworth calipers will bolt straight on. These have a bigger pad than std with the same size piston ( still a single pot)

These in conjunction with braided hoses and green stuff pads will give an excellent brake set-up for about 300 quid if you buy it all new ( or even cheaper if you use 2nd hand calipers available via the 'bay for about 40quid)

This would even fit under your existing wheels.

Hello Clivewavey.A mate of mine is just in the process of doing the cossie 4 pot conversion on his griff, and he's using the 283mm discs as well,as they not only give better performance but are also slightly cheaper than the std 260mm discs!!!Drop me a mail if you want me to pass on your details to him. He's a really friendly chap who i'm sure will be up for a chat about itsmile

I went for the 4 pot option that TVR Car Parts had on offer last year...might be worth a shout

hi Graham, I had considered it, but its a good £500, just looking to see what the ebay options are, could get them sorted for £100 with any luck.

I thought that to make this work you have to remove 4mm off the mounting face of the caliper to centralise the caliper over the disk. I know that the mounting lugs on the caliper are thick but removing 4mm could weaken them to much. The 283X24 disk is 58mm high, don't know if you can get 283X24 but 62mm high disk which would alleviate the need to remove material from the caliper.

I think 58mm was the biggest Ford did.

Just for reference,the 283mm disc is 55.5 high,the 278mm disc is 47mm high.

Thats right. The highest i could find is from a Ford Sierra 2.0 (non cosworth) 89-93 measuring 260 x 24 with 58.1 height.

Do you know what modifications he had to do to make the cosworth 4 pot caliper to fit.

I think it involves removing some material from the lugs,in order to position the caliper correctly, but dont quote me on that.
Another thoughtscratchchin :Its possible that with the 58mm high 260 diameter disc, the caliper/mount might need very little alteration,as if i recall correctly,my friend who's doing this said something like only a few extra mm repositioning is needed, when using the 55.5mm high 283mm dia disc. How could the caliper position be bought in to compensate for the smaller diameter disc thoughscratchchin

i am that man i have found that the position of the calipers is about 3-3.5mm out of line this can be corrected in a number of ways
1/ machine the difference off the hub mounting lugs although they are only 11mm thick
2/ machine the difference off the caliper mounting lugs they are 17mm thick
3/ machine the difference off the flange which the disc sit on approx 8mm thick
or my prefered option
4/ machine a little off all three then no one component will be compromised by any great amount
also the caliper mounting holes in the hub need to be threaded as the calipers have no threads in either but have the larger holes and mount inboard of the mounting lugs the opposite of the original calipers

i hope this helps anyone thinking of carrying out this mod

p.s clive i hope you got the pic i will try and send you some more tomorrow with more detail
